That makes more sense. Must have heard that nonsense in some review awhile back.

That’s fire! I found it in the All Apps… Thanks for sharing! I will pay more attention to the car’s messages.

It's strange, when I get in the X3 after driving the M2 for a while, the heavier, slower SUV somehow feels lighter and quicker than the M2. I like the M2 and the tech is great compared to the Supra, but I don't think I'm in love...

That's exactly the point and is what BMW intended. One is great for daily driving and is just fine for an occasional track day while the other is great for track driving and just fine around town. Neither is better than the other overall, but each is better than the other at what they were designed for.

Yeah the B58 low down torque makes it a lot more eager but it runs out of steam in the top end which is where the S58 really comes alive.

I do miss the DCT too. Will have to think about an XHP tune eventually to make it snappier.

Honestly, have a G42 with the B58... Fantastic car. Completely happy with almost everything about it but I missed having a manual transmission. I also felt like I compromised on my dream of owning an M car.

So picking up a G87 soon. Totally fine even if it is slower or less torque-y down low. G42 is already more power/speed then I can use on the road.

I have both a MY23 G42 M240 RWD and a MY23 G87 8AT...just by adjusting the M settings on the G87, there is little to no lost low end torque. Will take the G87 anybday over the G42.

Less torque-y down low with a manual doesn't mean you have to downshift, it means you get to downshift.

I drove an E90 M3 for many years. The S65's peak torque of 295 lb-ft was at 3,900 rpm. Never once felt like it was lacking in power because I kept it in the right place in the power band for the given situation. Plus it made a glorious noise at high rpm.

If your dream is to own a manual M car then I think you'll be very happy with the G87. You will want to downshift and you will want to rev it out. You'll be cruising down the highway in 6th and come upon a car you want to overtake. You could stay in 6th and easily pass, OR you can drop it down to third, pass, and work back through the gears to 6th.

In other words, low end torque doesn't matter if you are higher in the rev range.

Eh, the amount of people that actually track their cars is probably a very low percentage compared to those that don't. I doubt that's why the G87 came out the way it did (in the manual trim.) If the track crowd was high on their list to satisfy they would have found a way to make the car lighter, but they have the CS/CSL models for that crowd.

I really want to drive an automatic at some point to see if a lot of this not the best down low feeling goes away with more gears.

I didn’t mean to imply that the M2 is a road legal track car. I meant that it is more geared towards spirited driving, whether that’s backroads or the track, which means it sacrifices some of the daily around town comfort.

The automatic is probably the sweet spot for the majority of people but different people are looking for different things so it’s great that we have so many options.

Oh, the track crowd was ABSOLUTELY on their list, you don't get massive rotors, 285s in the back, and all the extra oil coolers if it's not designed for the track. And all the advanced stability control stuff. And removable brake duct covers. And probably a few other things I'm forgetting.

The better way to think of it is: this is BMW's track car in the sub $70K USD market. The CSL will be what, $95K, maybe lots more. Both absolutely are legit track cars, just in different price brackets.

Well, it got cold and just yesterday had the M2 out. Car has heated seats but it apparently doesn't have a heated steering wheel.

Bought a launch M2 off the lot. Didn't order one.

And the heating system is sub-par. As is my habit -- this has been the case for years with various vehicles -- I run the auto climate system in auto mode and set the cabin temperature to 72F. From a high of 119F to a low of 0F within just a few minutes the cabin would be comfortable.

But yesterday all I could feel out the vents was rather cool air. Instead of 40F one would think it was 90F outside...

Finally had to up the cabin temperature to 75F to get some warmth out of the system.

It is even colder today and I'll have the M2 out again and see if yesterday's experience was a fluke. And I'll look for that heated steering wheel button!

It’s just below the steering wheel hub between the split spokes which is a goood location. Much better than the seat heater controls.

I was surprised the "M-mode" display button isn't and cannot be linked to the "M" buttons on the steering wheel.

I bought a trunk organizer and was delighted to find the cargo hook is the same color as my body panel.

I am still a bit annoyed with the music comes on shortly after I open the door before I even starts the car. Sometime when I forgot something in the car and opened the door to get it, music comes on. Or youtube clip that I stopped on my phone resumed to play because it was connected. Now I have to rewind because I opened the door. Strange decision.

I was not expecting to get gas every week with the M2; but that’s because I drive spirited in Sport+ everywhere and I was formerly blessed by the M340’s efficiency.

Can’t even believe people are comparing the “M lite” cars (great cars don’t get me wrong, I had one) to this. My M340i was fast, but the M2 just kinda eats up everything you throw at it and smiles back, wanting more. Not even comparable IMO.

Very convinient location… just wish it was a bit warmer… tried to code it but did not find any option for the stearing wheel in BimmerCode.

I really miss the trunk net from the F87. That thing was clutch for keeping stuff in place otherwise the trunk is a bit useless for things like groceries. What trunk organizer did you get?
