I was definitely not attempting a dig - it’s sometimes difficult to tell. Sorry, I honestly am surprised at how real the “fake” sound is in the M2. Sorry if I wasn’t clearer, I rarely if ever bother to comment in a negative manner.

But do let us know what you find! My test as you can see is not very scientific lol We’re all finding out things as we go here… even BMW doesn’t know as much about these cars (vide digital key and wireless charger discussions) Cheers |

You are correct! I did check it again (albeit unscientifically) by opening my driver’s door while pressing the M sound exhaust button on each of the three modes. I can clearly hear the mechanical click of the exhaust flap adjusting - but as you said, only in the Sport and Sport+ modes. Nothing occurs in the normal efficient mode. Only over tge speakers inside the car, the “fake” sound is noticeable in each of the three modes - more pronounced as you move up the mode range.

On a side note, does anyone have a green light on the exhaust button that turns on when they press it? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a light there in some review videos, as well as in the G80/82, but the G87 I test drove twice didn’t have said light, and the CA that was with me thought that was odd as well.

Wow. That’s a very broad and authoritative statement to make. The CA I was with was familiar enough with the M3.
For reference, here’s a picture of said light in an M3. |

CAs know very little about these cars (which is what matters here, and what matters to me lol). I’m sure some CAs get some deeper experience with some cars that have been around for a while (which is not the case with the M3, as I’m sure it’s changed with iDrive 8, the picture you posted looks old). My point isn’t a dig at CAs. The fact they don’t know something about these cars shouldn’t be a surprise. |

To be fair, I drove the M2 with the CA in question on the US launch day, April 8th. I was the first customer to drive the car, and they had just gotten it off the truck the day before. So no, they didn’t have a lot of experience with the M2 at that point. I had watched a lot of videos on the G80, so I was expecting the sound control button to have a light. When I pointed out to the CA that there wasn’t a light there on their HEA he thought that was odd, since yes, the M3 has one. I’ve been wondering if there may be a parts shortage issue that might explain some or all ‘23 G87s not having a light there, or if BMW actually left out that small feature when they designed the G87. |

Well, it surprises me more when there are similarities between the G87 and the G80, given the price delta. Not unhappy with less features given one is the little brother and that’s usually how things go. Like the option to get leather on the dash (even if it’s sensatec). You’ll end up not using that button at all anyway, since you’re just going to be setting it to a preferred setting for efficient, and using the preset buttons. I wish we had night vision cameras too, but that’s reserved for the 5/7, as an example. The console you posted looked like what you’d get with iDrive 7, to me. It looks “fancier” than ours. Ours is a flat plastic looking piece too. I thought they’d be the same. But again, I’m unfamiliar with G80s |

Active Sound
My manual does not have a light next to the button, but there is a message that appears in the instrument panel.

That’s what makes the wireless charger go to different places too. So, the picture you showed is of an auto M3 (I can tell by the auto hold button, which doesn’t exist in the manual). If the previous poster car is an auto, maybe the consoles are exactly the same. Did you drive a manual? If so, maybe the manual consoles are exactly the same in M2/M3s as well. Which negates our comments about “cost cutting” between the 2 models. So: 1- did you test drive a manual? 2- previous poster with a light, is yours an auto? Good times… lol |

And yes, the picture I posted was from a Comp X Drive, so it was an automatic. Man… If this proves to be correct, and that button only has a light in the automatics, I’m going to have to change my spec from manual to auto. (j/k. No chance) |

And that the manual doesn’t get a remote start feature (even though the online builder says it does specifically). And that the manual CANNOT be used with a digital key (that awesome feature that allows you to use your phone or your watch to unlock and run the car). Those are auto-only features. Please tell me you already knew it, otherwise I feel bad now… And yes, I’m with you: none of those discourage anyone. It’s a manual!!!! Good try BMW, we won’t budge. |

On the F87 there was a m perf exhaust with å button for opening the valves. Is it possible to retrofit this on the G87, or are the connections and so on different?

I’ve got a wireless charger in my F87 now. It’s in the armrest. I never use it. Very odd though - While it does cause the phone to get a little warm, it does not cause the phone to overheat and shut down and lose your CarPlay connection as has been reported in the G87. I know one of our more knowledgeable members chimed in and said that the unit they’re installing in the armrest (which holds the phone sideways) is actually an older model, and he had no idea why they were installing it, could be due to a parts shortage. From the way things are being described and from the fact that the wireless charger in the F87 works better than the one in the G87 manual, I’d guess the one in the F87 is a newer model than the one they’ve been slapping in the manual G87. Now THAT seems super weird to me. |

As far as the transmission, the manual is the right one for me. I wouldn’t judge anyone for getting the ZF8, or say it’s the “wrong” way to get the car. I’m sure it’s still great. |

Yeah tongue in cheek. Someone else said in another thread “autos are what real men drive”, we joke around a bit. Cheers!
