Laguna Seca HPDE Oct 2023

My first HPDE in the G87. Here's a video of one of the few clear laps I had and after a bunch of track clean-up had vanished. Details on the car setup and some additional thoughts are in the video description.

For additional context, I have been doing HPDE since 2018 with ~40 track days experience - far from enough seat time regularly to show up feeling totally comfortable. I've tracked a Golf R, BRZ, Model 3, GRSupra, and GR86 prior to the M2. If I could kind of sum things up, I would call this a GRSupra V2. I think what this car cannot replicate compared with the GRSupra are the seating position just in front of the rear axle, cockpit like visibility outwards, and the behavior of a car with a shorter wheelbase. Those could be pros or cons depending on what you're into.

Awesome. I drove Laguna Seca several years ago with Skip Barber. I would love to do it again. What did you have traction set at? What do the different colors on the tires mean on the Harry's timer?

Good questions!

I'd ignore most of the data HLT was showing aside from Speed and Location, it unfortunately does not read the TPMS temps in the app. Probably a way to map it but I'm not the one to figure that out!

I kept the car in MDM actually. I never had the confidence to turn off stability control and just rely on TC given the street tires I was using and how quickly they became heat-soaked and greasy. I will be experimenting with all levels of M TC at a future skidpad type event in a few weeks to see how the car behaves.

In general the ABS and stability systems were pretty seamless and smooth. At my pace, skill-level, and with street tires, driving smooth is key, so if they're intervening, I'm not doing something right. It's a different story after going to high grip tires where factory stability and traction control systems were not calibrated to react properly with.

Nice video. I'll be at laguna 11/25 for my first track day in the m2.

Still mulling wheel and brake pad options

You'll have a good time! Higher chances of cold temps and maybe wet weather, so always have plan B in your back pocket. Always happy to share anything I know/learn.

I'm keeping it pretty light on the mods for this car. Trying to keep as a comfortable car I can drive to/from the track.

Millway street plates
Apex 19x10 with 275/35/19 RE71RS square
CSG or Pagit pads?
SRF fluid

I will have to experiment with the M TC. I have run my cars with everything off in the past, but I am definitely interested in how good the TC is now, especially at a place like Laguna which can be tricky and oftentimes wet/damp.

Nice! Funny you say those tires...delivery just arrived for me.

We'll have a pretty similar setup then. I'll be testing out M TC and "Drift Analyzer" in two weeks.
