TY!!!

Not certain I'm following correctly or factually accurate but now guessing about future official info:

Unlike F87 introduced with N55 (my B58 engine predecessor) and unlike (M3/M4) G8X MT introduced with S58O (Obere Leistungsstufe), G87 MT & G87 AT will both be introduced with S58T (Top Leistungsstufe) like G8X AT. G87 AT will be badged "Competition" like G8X AT but, unlike G8X MT, G87 MT will have same engine power as G87 AT.

My G29 is FUN. G87 will be exponentially FUNNER. Learning and guessing makes Bimmerpost fun.

No one (besides the BMW people working on it) knows anything about M2 Competition at this time.

If BMW does update the screen design they definitely won’t do it until the LCI.It does sound encouraging when the head of interior design says that big screens are on the way out.

They will certainly make changes for the LCI, but over the years I've learned to take what they say with a grain of salt. They may want to move in that direction, but inside politics and logistics to make that happen can be serious obstacles that could delay or even prevent it altogether. In the meantime, they will certainly improve the existing interface with OTA software updates. For the LCI they may overhaul the system, but I think it's more than likely they'll just improve its processing power, screen resolution, etc.

It was actually the head of the BMW i Interior department who was quoted in the article. Doesn't mean much for the rest of the lineup.

The average entry-mid luxury car buyer is dazzled by big screens in cars. As long as Tesla keep bringing them I strongly doubt anyone dare to spend a lot more for smaller dash integrated screens and risk to be less attractive to the volume of buyers. So more of a salt lake than a grain of salt to me.

ID7 would be my preference.

Edit Re iDrive updates. If we look to the past, iDrive gets a fairly large overhaul every 3-4 years and sometimes an LCI is uninvolved.

Yeah I'm def not looking forward to buttonless HVAC/radio, etc. I think my Mazda CX50 nails a perfect balance between screen/physical controls, and I think BMW even had a good balance. It's good to hear they at least recognize it may have went overboard with screens. We'll see where that takes us.

Agreed….

I saw the new iX in person yesterday. The ID8 screen appears almost as if it was an after thought. I think it was better implemented in the i4.

I'm assuming you're talking about the embargo on the first driving impressions of the prototype cars? The official reveal isn't expected until late summer to early fall. They will have test drives etc. of the G87 in its production ready form shortly after the official reveal, but they will once again impose an embargo on journalists and press. This is also why once reviews come out they do so almost all at once.

Usually these press pre production drives are made with cars fully covered in camouflage. Highly unusual to have them undressed to this extent. Maybe reveal is coming quicker than expected?

The 50th emblem looks pretty good on the body but on the center caps of the wheels as seen in some pix it looks very silly, like some kids fun fair ride.

Zoom in on the actual IG post. That is a vinyl wrap and not factory paint.

I agree. Wonder how they would look swapped out and still have the original motorsport emblem on the hood and trunk lid?

Edit: added zoomed pic.
