What's the REAL top speed of a 335i?
reason i ask is because i just realized, i shift out of 4th (into 5th) at 140MPH... so i have 2 more gears left?!?!?! maybe i dont know much about cars but... what does this mean if the top speed limited was removed? how fast could the car really go?

How did you redline at 120 in 4th and yet the OP was able to squeeze an extra 20mph out of his?

You can pull the gearing data from BMWUSA.com and do some calcs and this is what you'll get:
1st: redline (7k rpm) max speed 40mph 2nd: max 68mph 3rd: max 105mph 4th: max 138mph 5th: max 164mph 6th: max 189mph Note that the gearing is for a 6MT and also doesn't take drag into account (which applies to 6th gear). This is the theoretical max speed for each gear. |
