LCI 328i xDrive 6MT N52K to LCI 335i xDrive cluster swap Transmission Position Error

Please help. I have no idea on coding. I do have K+DN adapter and somehow got the coder program running on my dedicated laptop for coding, I think.

I got the 335i (supposedly manual AWD) cluster that was virgin from eBay.
Goal was to be able to tell engine temp, for when to start driving higher RPM.

I cleared other errors using handheld Autophix 7910 but transmission and mileage error remains.
Mileage is reading 63066 and seems correct at least down to the hundreds. Can't remember exact but that where it was about before in original cluster.

How do I get rid of "Transmission can't tell gear, car may start without depressed brake pedal" error?
And also to adopt the mileage from car to cluster.

Thank you.

I didn't code it myself. Someone sold it to me after coding. I saw pic of it where it read 8 miles when hooked up to a computer or something.

The cluster needs to be virginized which I believe you purchased based off the original post. After installing a virginized cluster you need to code it to the car. Won't be plug and play. Also may need to use perkecttoolbox since the lower part of the cluster is different from your original cluster

Any recent tool files and instructions to install? I have like two versions and they don't seem to work. I know the USB device K+DCAN works, bought them from forum sponsor but it doesn't seem to talk to the car.

I can't get INPA to see the car. Ignition ON/OFF is flickering.
Ignition stays OFF when not connected to car or car ignition is OFF
When car ignition is ON, INPA will flicker Ignition ON and OFF.
Screen was captured while the flicker was in ON position.

It sees the USB OBDII on my laptop.

Windows 10 64 bit running as Windows 7 Compatibility and admin.

have you checked in the ediabas ini file to make sure it's set to use com 1?

it should be in the BG download, but double check.

Do you get any lights on the kdcan cable when attempting to connect to the bus?

Clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1 and reinstall didn't help.
Ignition is still blinking like mad and can't make connection to car. Flipping the switch doesn't work either.

I guess I'll have to call Joe and ask if his cable I bought was faulty. It's been like that since day one. I thought it was my install.

If it's a topgearsolutions cable I highly doubt it's faulty. Might be worth it to just pay one of the sponsored vendors like joe to remotely figure out your issue for you

Cable is bad. Joe remote in to install software again in his version and found the cable not talking to car.
He's sending a new one after making sure it works.

Well, cable might not be bad? Who knows.
Joe, from forum sponsor Top Gear Solutions, sent the new one right away on Saturday, got it Monday, tried it and didn't work.

Switched laptops, didn't work.

Joe came online quickly and worked around changing setting to COM2 and cable switch to right side looking from top with the OBD up and wires down.
It worked! Ignition is still flickering on the screen but it can read vehicle information now.

Sending back the previous cable to Joe and see if it works for him. Didn't try COM2 with old cable.
I'll try new cable again on the other dedicated laptop and see where we get from there. At least the new cable is sure to work.
Now I just need to make the car learn the 335i cluster to stop giving me transmission position error and give responsive engine temp. As of now it takes a long time to come up to 190f.

It helps that Top Gear Solutions is right here in Tennessee, only three hours or so from where I'm at. Good for ppl who are in East Coast and middle country for time zones.
I'll ask Joe next time when I have a few things lined up for coding. I know I want speed correction and DISA upgrade in the future. I might need his help when I install the aftermarket rear view camera.

Got it fixed. Still couldn't get the small dedicated laptop to work so I went to my larger laptop and found out it wasn't working again at reading VIN in NCS Expert.

I was running INPA and was able to read the vehicle information in it!

So I turned off INPA and NCS Expert works again!
Turns out I have to give the apps time to read the vehicle and can't run them at the same time.

Got the cluster coded and Transmission position error went away, mileage asterisk went away, vehicle maintenance time stamp errors went away!
Now the car is back to normal again, and I got my engine coolant temp meter running.
Wish it was engine oil temp, though. More relevant and quicker to come up.

The whole issue was because inpa was open at the same time ncs expert was?

That and both programs seems to take time to recognize the car.
