Good time to upgrade to 2024 M2?

I currently own 2019 330i which is running perfectly fine. But I can’t stop looking at the new 2024 M2. Test drive a manual and really loved it! But again there is nothing wrong with my current car and it’s only 5 years old. I also hear that the 2025 M2 is going to have a bump in hp, so not sure with the jump in base will be. But I’m not looking to track this car, just want to enjoy the ride and be able to use it for me DD. Thoughts?

Word is that the manual '25 will only get a ~20hp increase, not gunna be something you really notice on the road. They go into production around August so realistically you wouldn't get the car until late fall sometime. Reasons to wait are that little power bump, some new colors that no one knows specifics on and possibly new minor design changes like new wheels as well.

Downsides are obviously the long wait time, and you're less likely to get a good deal on a '25 versus a '24 at the moment.

"Nothing wrong with it" is no the same as loving to drive your car. If it's only for transportation, sure. But most that hang out on these forums view cars as more than that.

As iifymbro says the '25 changes will be modest so not a strong reason to wait on their own.

The power increase on the MY25 will be most noticed on the 8AT with a significant bump in torque. There should also be some additional colors but timing and exactly what I dont believe have been released.

Voodoo blue is bad ass nonetheless.

. But thats just me, no right or wrong. I would have jumped on Java Green or Signal Green if it was available. Also would have loved Ruby Black Metallic.

BMW is going to change the advertised power and it will end up dyno'ing the same numbers as the '24. No reason to wait to order the car.

Hp may be a touch higher. Torque on the 8AT will be significantly higher.

The current model year has plenty of hp for most owners and the published numbers are always a bit cloudy IMO.

It is also personal taste. I think ZB pops, others it leaves a bad taste in their mouth. BSM looks great too but here in the desert black is just hard to keep clean. If you can, try to see all the colors in person that you are able to. Pictures don't truly do any of them justice.

I had a chance to pick up a used 23' M2 in ZF blue for a good price but I couldn't quite get behind that color. I don't know how else to explain except for it just isn't me and I think the M2 in black looks bad azz. I do think the ZF blue will be more of a collector's color in the future.

Since everyone ppfs their whole car anyways, im surprised ZB and stealth wraps hasn’t taken off.

At this point it is definitely worth waiting for 25.
Bmw is getting into habit of screwing its current owners. (x5s, M4s, m2s) are all going through it. (I owned all of those and was on the receiving end of BMW shaft First year 2019 x5 50 v8 went into M50 next year with rear diff and more power
M4x is going through LCI with more power, now M2

- Power and torque in Auo is going to be noticeable to everyone
- manual will be less so but will fall under the preexisting notion that 25 is better

Most important - resale value is going down for 24 and below. Everyone looking for used M2 will be looking for 25s and up model because of the power increase. that is speaking from experience trying to sell 2019 x5 50 and 2022 M4x

Get the 25

I dont think most people ppf their whole car. If a poll was taken, I would bet the majority just ppf the front clip with some also doing the rocker panels.

I didn't want to wait until the fall to see a MY25 especially living in the land of 10,000 snowballs. Yes, this winter has been warm and dry for the most part so I have been driving it some, but we just came out of a cold and snowy winter ( 3rd snowiest on record) so who knows what next year might bring?

Just ask yourself this, would you be happy with a MY24? If the answer is yes, get one. If your answer is maybe or no then you need to decide if an 8+ month wait is worth it to you.

If you don't like any of the current colors, wait. New ones are coming.

Some people need to have the latest version of things they choose to own (I can relate). If that's you, wait.

I don't feel like the obvious things here have been addressed. Going from a 330i to the M2 is a bit of an adjustment with only getting two doors. That does complicate the logistics of passengers in and out of the car. I assume the 330i is AWD and RWD is a completely different animal.

You get sooo much fun in return from the M2 platform (engine, 6 speed manual, and all the other cool things) but the trade off is you lose practicality, and it will be more money. I thought all this over when I was car shopping and because 95% of the time it would only be me, the M2, and the road I bought the car that would serve the majority of my driving needs. Yes there are times when my kiddos drive me crazy trying to get in and out of the car but all of that is forgotten when I open the thing up on the road.
