It's really unfortunate that, as my income gradually increased, the base price increased by $10k over the course of two years, to the point where I just didn't feel good about spending the money. The M2 certainly feels better at ~$65k, but I honestly wish I liked the Type R more at ~$45. This hobby certainly isn't for poor people
For non-GT p cars it’s wild that a 379 hp base 911 would sell for $140k - $155k which is what I’m seeing on PorscheUSA inventory. Plus tax in many states. The car is not worth $160k OTD. Same with the $95k base 718 even if it is a “style edition” whatever the heck that is.

I put in a deposit on a T at $145k which became $157k before I even got an allocation. I test drove a base car again and was not that impressed relative to my G80 comp x, so I backed out. Like you I just didn’t see the value.

My guess is in 5 years when everyone is in love with the 992.2, the 991.2 will be relatively affordable and certain models of the 992.1 will see their bubble pop. I’d love for the GTS to drop $30k when everyone wants the hybrid NA 3.7L. I guess we’ll have to wait and see because it could go the other way just as easily.

I agree prices are getting out of hand. I was fortunate enough to buy my 911 CT for $127k optioned perfectly IMO (RAS, 360 cam, shark blue, yellow belts, black wheels). To be fair though, your G80 starts at 84k and can easily surpass $100k for an M3, which is wild. So it’s not just Porsche that’s jacking up the prices.

You were fortunate to buy at the right time. True about the M3 although I think you have to take the longer view - I bought my e93 loaded in fall 2012 for $80k. Now a comparable G83 is $100k. $20k increase over 12 years is fine in my book. My comp x last year - 2023 model - was $87k. Our loaded manual competition F80 was $78k IIRC. So 5 years, $9k and if you go now for a comp RWD it’s an even smaller increase. And a manual M3 can be had for almost the same price as back then with more power. Yes, you can option them up above $100k but you’re also getting a lot more options than you had before.

OR you can just get an M2 and defeat all inflation - deflation!
