Illuminated M Trim Added

Well just got a text from my CA that the Illuminated M trim was added to my order. The dealership got an email from BMW NA that all the M240's they were getting were going to have that option added. Anyone else had this happen? While it isn't a major deal breaker, I wanted to run all purple LED's to match the exterior.

Yep, me too… unfortunately. I really did not want it.. CA said that's why my build was flipped from Scheduled for Production to Order Received.

It's forced with both gloss black trim and the aluminum robiclile.

Does that mean we won't get the M illumination on the dash board ?

hmmm - wondering if this will impact the group whose early 2023’s are already produced…my CA hasn’t mentioned anything to me about it and he’s the type that would if he knew…

I get the feeling that this is just the illuminated trim we've already seen in the 23s that have been delivered but I guess we'll find out soon enough!

I saw a window sticker for an M240 with rhombicle trim but a black dash…no M illumination on the window sticker. Is it being added as standard? Or being charged as an option? Why can’t we just have nice things that aren’t gloss black? 😂

For reference:

Not standard, being charged 200 as usual
I believe this is a recent change hence why it isn't reflected in that window sticker.

What do you mean by it being forced with gloss black and the rhombicle? The top trim will be piano black if the car wasn’t ordered with M Illuminated trim, and the top trim is likely to be like the M-pattern in the Japanese video if M Illumiated trim was ordered. The first delivery of a ‘23 was with aluminum rhombicle w/o the M illuminated trim and it came with rhombicle on the lower positions and the piano black on top with leds (but not the M pattern as shown in the Chinese version.). So clearly not all cars are being forced to have M illuminated trim.

It seems that there's some confusion here…the 23's dash trim may possibly be fixed to piano black regardless of trim or lighting options because they now have embedded lighting either way - the m illumination is not the reason for the piano black, the lighting in the dash with or without this scheme is the culprit.

This is something new. All new 2-series vehicles moving forward that enter production will be REQUIRED to add M-Illuminated trim (43A) when choosing either Gloss Black or Rhombicile (trim options 4LM or 4AT)

This is a new change that was just announced by BMWNA today, Sept. 8. So previous 2023 models that were already produced will NOT be affected

Nothing was mentioned about the trim that was displayed in that Japanese demo video. So I'm not too sure about that, just relaying what I heard so far today.

thank you for confirming this!
it seems that at least I will not be getting the M illuminated door trims which I didnt choose and I like less , so " half of the damage" is now avoided hopefully...

I swapped my 230i week 46 build from Rhombicle to Gloss Black this week after seeing the new dash seemingly only being available in black. My SA mentioned needing to add the illuminated M trim and I thought it was a mistake. However, sure enough, now shows illuminated M as standard equipment even on 230s.

What does the dash illumination look like? I have a MY23 (built Aug 12th) currently on it's way to Baltimore. I got the M illuminated trim so just wondering. Not a deal breaker for me either way.

This is all so bizarre.

I'll likely get the illuminated/gloss black dash piece which I don't really like, but at least I'm getting the parking package, adaptive cruise, lumbar support, etc. I know lots of folks last year ended up with decontented builds so this is very minor in the grand scheme of things

I wonder if A) it is a supply issue and it's more cost efficient to order more M door trim then split between M and regular black, B) 2022 customer feedback against the regular black door trim so they are limiting it to non-M sport base models, or C)

wondering the same. meyer1son shared pics of the dash trim (https://g42.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=16) but it's not the optional "m" version given what I see on the door.

As the sticker shows, what is "M" about the new non-optional illuminated dash strip? Perhaps you can set the scheme to show the m-color pattern?

If so, it wouldn't match the side panel graphics of those who ordered the "m" version (such as yourself) - but perhaps the version as seen in the chinese youtube video is the one you would get?

So...many...questions...about such a small item!

This is a picture from someone on the board who already has his MY23.

I would imagine that's why they are making the M trim standard. I think it could be nice if it's done like we saw in the Chinese video.

I actually kind of like the illumination on the dash. I just wonder how distracting it is when driving at night. I do not like what they show in the Chinese video.
