Valvetronic actuator broken? Looks like metal shavings around the gear

I’ve been getting Valvetronic codes on my n55. and I have finally removed the actuator. When turning the shaft to release it about every full turn of the actuator worm gear it would get caught and I would have to put an extra effort to get it moving again. Is that normal? There also appear to be metal shavings along the worm gear although the gear does look ok as far as I can tell. I’m guessing it’s bad but was wondering if anyone else as any expertise on it. Thanks
