the aftermarket, both what is available and where it is priced, is a reflection of the owner's group desire and ability to pay. which is why i am always willing to push back on M tax pricing publicly when vendors will listen

The manual m2 comes with a mesh, the auto has a transmission cooler in front and doesn't have the mesh for whatever reason. You can buy the mesh from the dealer and put it on with some zip ties.

For reference, this is my oil cooler with 9,000 Km. I see some fins a little bent on the underside, on the left-hand side. It looks like the right-hand side of the picture was hit by the flash so there are strong reflections. I went skiing twice and the road up the mountain is covered in grit they throw down for traction.
Looks pretty good to me. |

The sad part is that these incidents are preventable to an extent had not been for the bean counters at BMW. Absence of protection is not even a styling cue IMHO.
Obviously it is up to us to fend for ourselves, the factory has been successful in placing the onus on the owners, so why would they pivot from that now, there’s no regulatory body forcing them to (look how vigorously the industry fought the airbag recalls where people actually died). I think the population of G8x’s is rather small, and incidents like this won’t amount to a blip in the statistics. Unless there’s risk in loss of life or enough serious injuries as a result, I doubt the NHTSA would even investigate. Meanwhile, owners of these vehicles will suffer, besides having to remedy with after-market parts, I would imagine our G’s will get rate adjusted by insurance carriers once they have enough loss experience to look back upon. Move aside bean counters, I think it’s fair to say that most, if not all, of us would happily fork over a few more bills to BMW for a more “complete” package. We should be able to enjoy the G without thinking how to prevent starving the engine. |

After watching this I wouldn't get the Zunsport if that's what you're planinng on getting. It's nothing special, you can do this yourself with some aluminum grill mesh and just extend the end over to the two washer screws on either side and then use some self-tapping screws into the plastic around the perimeter of the oil cooler. You should be able to DIY for around $20~25 which is dirt cheap.

Repurposed lab table jack, fitted some rollers on the bottom and rubber pads on top. I used that when installing/removing skid plates on my offroad vehicles since I can't count on my daughter lending a third hand.
I used that jack to align the Turner's plate as it was heavier than the Mishimoto one. |

Ok 1-2kilos more maybe and the motor does not die. Fair trade and not noticeable to most if not all drivers. The marginal weight gain not worthy of any debate lol.

Update: Insurance says they are still running numbers and may need few more days. They said the current estimates don't tally to total loss but they may determine otherwise based on the salvage value of the car. They also seem to have no info on this model since it is 2024 and a rare model.
Now another concerning point they stated is the repair rep is recommending against the turbos replacement and is only recommending oil line flush. Kind of bummed out they are saying this. Can someone explain what can go wrong by not replacing the turbos and why? |

One believes the risk is very low of any damage having occurred to the turbo shaft. The other One wants to ensure all rotating parts that the oil touched are replaced. The BMW service tech would have to prove why it’s needed so insurance can pay for it. |
