2006 330i - Radio Issues

I’ll give you a quick run down of the vehicle.

I’m the third owner. Second owner was the “middle man” as we bought with intentions to flip.

103,000 on the clock when I bought her a few weeks ago. TPMS light was on, no radio working, screen would flash funny things.

Took the car to get new TPMS sensors installed. Come to find out, no sensors were in the tires. Installed new sensors. Can’t reset TPMS light without the use of the idrive system. Unfortunately, I need the screen and radio (CCC unit) in order to reset these things.

The radio from the dealer is a little under $3700 before tax.

I can find some used ones and also one from a salvage yard. All of them range from $250-$450. However, it’s my understanding that these units might needed flashed to my car? Anyone know anything about that?

I was able to stumble into a radio repairman in my area and he hooked me up with a company in Texas. I’ve sent my unit to them for diagnosis. If they can repair, they will do so for a little under $1000 without shipping.

Anyone ever had these type of issues?

Hoping this fixed the problem and it’s not a larger issue. Otherwise maybe I can get the code deleted somehow through a coder? Idk.

2006 uses wheel rotation sensor at the hub for TPMS there are
no electronic sensor in the wheels . There are magnets in the wheel
bearing that interface with a hall sensor.
This is called the FTM system which is what mine has I have and 2006 wagon
this was true of all the US cars I don't know what they did in other country's.
If you have this system putting sensors in the wheels won't work because there
in no receiver or supporting wiring and software.

I have no idrive and I can reset the sensors from the INstrument cluster it requires holding
down a the trip inidcator and something else for a certain amount of time .

You can buy idrives on ebay and there are places that repair them .

Go to the coding sub forum to learn to code.
You can do default coding which reads the car configuration code supplied in the VO frimware which
is a copy of the factory code for each module to get the unit back to what it came with .
Default coding can be done for any module that fails and there are quite few.
If you buy one chances are you will have to program it to your cars options.
See coding sub forum .

FTM tire pressure system is not the same as TPMS it uses no wheel sensors .
FTM is the system used in all US 2006 cars as far as I know.

No clue on your particular pressure monitoring setup. Can’t reset it though my cluster.

Moving forward with radio repair. Will advise.

I believe since my vehicle is equipped with idrive I have to do my reset through there. No one. I mean no one that I’ve had look at it can figure it out through that lever alone.

I want the radio to work, regardless. So once I get that figured out hopefully the stars will align and I can click reset on the screen through the radio/ccc unit.

IF they can repair.

FTM tire pressure system is not the same as a TPMS system used in
later year cars .
As Far as I know all 2006 models have FTM that's what mine has.
And it works well enough but you don't get a pressure readout for
obvious reasons.
Chances are if you found not sensors in your tires and it's a 2006 car
it does not require tire sensors and it's useless to put them in .

Procedure for TPMS is go to the BSD stock scroll through the menu
till you see the tire symbol . Press the stock button for what seems like a long time till you get the check mark and then drive the car .
You need to set your tire pressures first.
If this does not work one of the speed sensors at the wheel bearing is bad or the bearing itself is not the right one or is installed backward. There is a magnetic ring on the wheel bearing that must face the Hall sensor .
