The 2 Series doesn't have capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel so the whole article has nothing to do with this.

The biggest complaint on the VW infotainment is lag and iDrive 8 is much better than VW.

Most folks that drive Dubs don't understand how a car goes, let alone half the new tech in it.

Read us the title.
Read us the sub-title.
Read us the first paragraph (sentence).
Read us the second paragraph.

Now tell me this article has nothing to do with this.

I have no problems with the steering wheel 'buttons' or the touchscreen on my R. I can't remember the last time I drove with my hands on the spokes of the steering wheel. Maybe decades ago in a bumper car.

The ID7 on my M240 is also not a problem.

I don't expect to have any problems with ID8 in my M2.

Change is hard. But you gotta put in the effort.

If you have some technology experience ID8 is no problem to learn. I do think my parents may struggle with it but after living with it for a short period of time now it is very intuitive. I find the rotary dial to be the only thing I am using most of the time and it is great. None of my other cars have had this and I think its amazing lol.

Hasn't there been a history of one or more car manufacturers doing this in the past and switching back after customer complaints? I thought it was VW, but maybe not?

I think people are fine with it as long as you have a few physical buttons/dials for the most common features: volume and A/C.

Yes and No. I think BMW eliminating some key buttons like heated seats, max AC and a few others will eventually make their way back.

People on id8 don't seem to care. But three steps to hit a heated seat isn't luxurious at all. It's a pain in the butt.

Why not assign Heated Seats to the favorites list? One finger slide down on the screen & the favorites are displayed - up to 8 I believe

It's only two steps, and the heated seat selector and other options on the climate menu are large, well-spaced, obvious and easy to change quickly and without distraction.

Sure- but that means entry into a screen and moving it to select something that should be a button.

If the focus is driving- why did they remove an easy muscle memory item and place it into a screen?

Listen- we all have to deal with id8 (I have to pull the trigger on a new car that will have it). But I know the old minimized buttons work fine. OP is probably wrong about resale- but I even lament the button on iPhones.

No way Apple is bringing that one back. But how easy it was to click click button in pocket on iPhone 6S and bam.

Life is getting harder. Not easier. For some reason. Maybe it's getting more complicated?
