Getting dealer freebies after the car deal's been made?
Okay, so I bought my car and it's going to be ready for pick up tomorrow morning. The thing is, the reason why I chose this dealer to begin with was he said the car was going to be here TWO weeks ago and I was in a huge time crunch.
Anyway, I made the deal with him and everything's done. I was just wondering if there's any way I can go about getting a few freebies when I go pick up my car tomorrow even though we never discussed this during the deal making process. Do you think I'd be able to use the car's lateness to get some free mats or something? Would it be better to ask in person tomorrow or through email?

I didn't ask for any freebies before I signed the papers... but I ended up getting free carpetted mats, keychains, a tee shirt, car shampoo, and a leather chamios.
I just e-mailed my CA and said that other dealers threw in a bunch of free stuff and was wondering if they'd do the same. Dude was real nice about it. Good luck, and have fun!

Go for broke and ask him in person. They are usually good about throwing in freebies if you ask nice.

All I really want are floor mats. That shouldn't be too much to ask for. I'm just so bad at asking for things, lol.

I may have out-thought myself, but I bought floormats on eBay in order to take that option off the table for free stuff, intending to leverage something better, roof-racks for instance.
Or I may get a tee shirt and a keychain. |

I would bring up the idea of some freebies when he brings up wanting a 5 on his survey.
Seriously though, I would ask for them to throw in a few items at delivery, doesn't hurt to ask. My dealer threw in the mats and keychains without asking. Doesn't hurt to ask at this point.

I can't believe your dealer is even talking about floormats ... don't those come delivered with the car anyway? If they tried to charge me for floormats I'd be walking out the door.

Yep, they don't come standard. When the salesman said he was throwing them in, my wife was like "WTF, they're already in the car".

My CA told me their was no charge for the floor mats. They are the same $125 ones. I didn't think about asking for any freebies. I should have asked for the keychain I liked in the display. Oh well.

I think the dealers just like to say they'll throw them in. I havent heard of anyone ever being charged for those carpet mats --I made no mention of floormats or anything for my car, and when it was delivered (fresh off the truck), the dealer invited me to go see it (pre-PDI) and told me there were already floor mats in there. I think it's pretty stupid not to have those mats in there standard. I think the dealer just tells you they're throwing them in just to make you feel like you got some special deal or something... hahaha.

I arranged for floor mats at order time in Feb. without additional charge. My "freebies" included chrome tips for my exhaust, nice little BMW keychain and $150.00 voucher to spend at the dealer's Lifestyle store.
Oh yes, during the official car launch back at the end of May, because I had already placed my car order, I received a big, long yellow box with a bottle of wine or port or champagne or something like that. I am not a drinker, so it wasn't a big deal. With the profits they made, they can afford those little extras!

My dealer UPS my floormats to me.....after I told him where the hell are the floormats? I went BAAAZZZZOOOOKKKAAAA! when he told me the floormats were not standard....I've never bought a vehicle that doesn't come with floormats....
I drove my car in some cheap plastic floormats until UPS delivered the goods......

Both my e46's came from the VPC with the floor mats in the trunck wrapped in plastic. All the dealer did was unwrap them and put them in. I think they're standard and dealers try to make themselves look generous by "throwing them in for you".
They were never a discussion on my e46's either ... had the dealer tried to charge me there'd have been some heading for the door. |

obLu, did you buy your previous cars from Seattle BMW? When I ordered my car from them (still waiting), my CA would not give me floor mats for free, he wanted to charge me. I am paying a lot of money for a car with no floor mats. When my car gets here, I am going to ask again for mats. These guys here are shaddy.

I figure "freebees" are a way for the dealer to show you how much they appreciate your purchase. If you get little or nothing then the dealer then they either had no margin on the vehicle (which means you got a good deal) or they don't think much of their customers. I went in before my car was delivered and asked about the floor mats so I could order if needed and make sure they had them. I was told they would provide them, which they did. Also got very nice key chains and a sun shade for the windshield. But I didn't 'ask' for anything.

Floormats are not 'free' they are normally costed to the car as part of the sales price, and provides revenue in each sale to the 'parts' dept. Any good salesman will 'throw them in'. As buying one of these cars without them would have most buyers headed out of the showroom. The margins on these cars are nominal which is why the stories of the salesman 'charging' for them are probably just a guy doesn't like working for peanuts.

I'm paying for all my "extra's". I had them include it in the financing.
Carpet mats, cargo liner, tips, sunglass holder, aluminum pedals, roof rail trim. (to cover the holes from removing the rails) I recieved such a good price that I wasn't going to push the issue.
