You could add the G-Wagon in there, I'd wager that BMW had their eyes on that market.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy this over a G Wagon. BMW is in for a big surprise if they think they are going to take sales from that. Hell I'd take a normal G550
over the XM.

You know, it really is great that BMW is actively seeking out the blind and visually impaired for lead roles in their design department.

I like the overall design, it has potential BUT…..

If you can spec this thing with all black shadowline trim, and big black wheels, throw some frozen paint on it or go the xpel stealth PPF route, then I think it looks mean/menacing - note the rendering that has been circulating.

All the gold/bronze trim is ridiculous and doesn't work on the iX, and won't work on this.
All that being said, holy sheet MSRP is in the wrong planetary system. This is an X7 platform based SUV that BMW decided should be priced like a halo car. My take on it is that BMW knows they failed making the i8 a halo car, so they are trying this approach. I think this is a great looking SUV.
But let's all be real with ourselves. When you spec it with options, paint, wheels, and then add the guaranteed ADM's that the bmw dealership network will charge, you end up having a 210-230k SUV. Gentleman, and ladies, that's a different league. One that an X7 based SUV that's been worked over by M division, just shouldn't be playing in. I see no business reason this car couldn't have come in at 139k base and maybe 155k for the red label, and packaged fully loaded like the M5CS. Just my thoughts.

700-1000lbs difference on 5-6000lbs vehicle doesn't have the same effect as going from 4000 to 3000lbs.

I was contemplating trying to acquire a G wagon as you can be litterly paid to drive them when baught new but the XM is way better daily machine with its hybrid system, like one said, my bet is they studied the G wagon market.

I do a lot of city errands and just took dilevey of 2023 X3 30e (Canada) and it's just awesome.

From the door slam, to the locking noise, the side exit exhaust, they are just super cool, and I've also always loved the look. Plus the resale is incredibly high, I imagine this XM will likely have severe depreciation like the 8er.

I’m definitely not in market for $200k SUV but if I was then this thing would not be on my list.

I love how the only ppl that like the looks want it to be “murdered” out in black - well yes that’s the only way hideous cars can look remotely attractive.

This powertrain is so complicated and has so many moving parts that this XM will have HUGE depreciation. So if you really want one, im sure they will be under $50k used in 5 years.

I’m just sad that a storied brand like BMW that i grew up on and supported for 15yrs has just completely ruined anything left of ///M brand. Its a laughingstock stock in automotive circles at this point.

This is the biggest problem, it just seems like a car that will experience massive depreciation. Urus's and Cayenne Turbo GTs will be fine but I think this will just get crushed.

It's more like a luxury SUV product (like Bentaya or Cullihan) and they depreciate.

First time I have ever seen BMW reveal a new M car that has a less powerful engine. The S68 engine, which is to be used in all V8 powered M cars and non M cars seems to be an N63R with F90M5 heads and turbos/manifolds. Compression ratio is 10.5:1, which is going to make it more prone to bending rods compared to the F90/f96, etc.

Even in Red label spec, this XM is making around 535hp max. A full 100hp down from the m5cs.

On the gt63s amg e-performance. Mercedes took the 640hp engine and added 200hp to this for a total of 840hp. BMW needed to be there for this Xm as well as the next gen M5. The S68 doesn't appear to be in that ballpark, which is unfortunate. Makes for a good sales pitch for all current BMW models with the S63tu4, as it appears it will be the most powerful gas engine if all time from BMW.

At this point I would have rather they kept the S63tu4 and added the 197hp battery to that engine however I'm not sure it would meet emissions up to 2030 which is where this s68b44 is said to be emissions compliant until then.

Mercedes did it right. They offer the e performance as an option on the gt63s and I wish bmw did it here as I doubt anyone would opt for that option 😂

The Xm needed carbon rotors and carbon roof, and the carbon buckets and rear seats like the m5cs. With that it would have set itself apart. Instead, it's gonna get lost in the shuffle. An X6m is a better option than this and looks better, also is faster

Although it's a top of the range product, it hosts a toned down N63 V8. Is this because the 'hot V8' with 530hp is not reliable enough?

Cayenne Turbo - 5,056 lb

Cayenne Turbo S Hybrid - 5,675 lb
Turbo GT is 5000lbs which is what the XM red label will be priced at

20% heavier is significant

It has the heads from f90 m5, turbos, cross bank manifold also. So not a normal n63r but a far cry from S63tu4. Also has plastic valve covers and lower and upper oil pan to save weight. Which we know these will crack over time like the n62 did. 😂.

The S68 is a let down for sure. Very unfortunate

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy this over a G Wagon. BMW is in for a big surprise if they think they are going to take sales from that. Hell I'd take a normal G550

Funny. I rode around in Afghanistan in them with a German 2 star. Thought they were crap. Could barely fit the two of us (with body armor and long arms) into the backseat with a CB size radio they stuck in the middle. I see someone driving them on a highway, I think small hands. (No, not actually the hands…)

At 735hp I'm intrigued. that's definitely them trying to get at the urus, Aston and Cayenne gt.
At that price level, it's an interesting modern take at the same performance of these cars. Becomes a subjective brand thing. Is Porsche still better at luxury sports suv than this thing? Classicist versus modernist?

Choices..
