Hi everyone

As a member on the G01 X3 page and owner of a 2022 X3 M40d I am considering a M240i X-Drive for the wife. What sort of insurance premiums are you guys (or gals) paying in the UK?

I'm based in the West Midlands, which on the basis of the quotes I have received to date the M240i X-Drive appears quite expensive to insure, although the cost variability between insurers is confusing to say the least

Some insurers demand trackers and some dont

Quotes have ranged from £10k to £1200.00!

Both myself and the wife are in our mid fifties with no endorsements, accidents etc....Licences held for 35 years +.

Too many variables to give any sensible comparisons but to answer your question, fully comp, 20+ years ncb for me and Mrs P was just under £400 with AXA

That's such a MASSIVE difference in policy pricing that it may be worth checking to ensure the high quote has the information correct.

After 25 years with State Farm, bundled home and car, we switched to Progressive, which cut the auto by 65% but saved next to nothing on homeowners.

We received a bill from State Farm that had a large bump, my wife called the agent we worked with since 1997, who seemed to be offended and said that State Farm is a "luxury" name brand.

I told my wife the agent was delusional and that we were switching to a new company, which we did the next day.

I found the same variations, some crazy quotes.

I went with Chris Knott in the end, low risk postcode, 48 years old, 8k miles with 10 years NCB and a few mods was £800

I have 30+ years NCB which is used on my M40d. However, the wife is a named driver and has a company car so no transferable NCB.

As mentioned quotes were coming in from £10k to the best at £1250.00. That was on the basis of the wife being the named driver and with 0 NCB, which on balance of the performance of the car and city living it doesn’t appear too bad, although it’s adds £100 to the cost of monthly finance and running costs.

Shropshire based. Myself and wife, both for business use, 10k miles a year, full protected ncb, no claims or convictions £380 a year. About £60 a year cheaper than previous s3. Hopefully remains cheap🙏🏻

It’s got to be your post code - I’m outside Peterborough with RAC at £540. Have you actually spoken with anyone, or just used online price compare systems?

Just reinsured 2 weeks ago with Aviva, full no claims and protected bonus £370, that’s including car hire and no tracker required

I have used price comparison websites and insurance brokers. They are all pretty much the same price renge with the only differences being the compulsory excesses.

Scotland always appears to be a cheaper place to live for insurance purposes

Tried Admiral which was the cheapest but the customer reviews were not very appealing - Myself and wife mid to late fifties - full clean licences and no accidents etc - £1000 with combined excesses of £1000 - 6k miles per year

£1200 with Aviva, LV £1250 needs tracker - all have high compulsory excesses of approximately, £750!

Recently been pricing for my inbound... central Scotland, 30+ years driving, 8yr no claims, clean licences, £395 with Admiral which is £20 up on my current M135i
Out of interest I got a quote with "bodykit (optional extra)" in case I went with any carbon M parts and it was the same price. (This was before I became aware of the absurd cost of those parts )

I follow a few of the road policing twitter accounts and WMP are always posting about theft, maybe they're just more active but seems like a bit of a hotspot.

I just renewed my 3er for £400 with Tesco Bank, the cheapest quote I’ve had for the 240 when it arrives is £850. 39 with 20 years driving and clean license.

About £330 for myself and with my wife as a named driver. So expensive.

My Jaguar XFR 5.0 SC V8 cost barely £200. I believe prices have risen recently.

I had the same experience, coming out of a 503hp Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio which was <£500 to insure to the M240iX which is £890 with a bunch of aesthetic only mods declared.

My thoughts are that underwriters consider 2 series drivers higher risk and expect them to be stolen.
