2011 E93 M3 Convertible Hardtop Issue
Hello, I have an E93 M3 and I’m having some hardtop issues. A week ago, the top just wouldn’t come up, so I added hydraulic fluid and it worked normally again for a couple days. Now the issue is that the left side doesn’t seem too cooperative when I’m putting the top up. When I pull the switch/button hard (auto close), the roof gets stuck in the position shown in image 1. The right side (image 3) seems to be lifting but the left side (image 2) does not. I can hear the motor running, but after a while, it gives up and the right side descends (image 4).
Now the weird thing is that it’s only an issue when it auto closes. If I keep my finger on the switch, the roof comes up normally. I have noticed (although I might just be paranoid) that the roof closes slightly slower than it did a couple years ago. I’m wondering if what I have is an electrical issue (maybe a pressure sensor or a relay / older battery?), or if I’ll need to replace a hydraulic cylinder. I’d rather not take it to my dealership since they have a track record of messing up my car, but if it’s something too delicate to mess up I’ll do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
