Unhappy My car's sick

Took the E46 in for it's first MOT this morning... and it's still there.

Both of the rear springs were fractured at the top end, after only 34000 miles.

I did find a chunk of metal that might have been a bit of spring on the drive about a year ago, but couldn't see anything amiss despite having a good look at the car. Since that time it's done about 10,000 miles, been in for service and had the rear tyres replaced without anyone noticing.

Good thing that it's under warranty until the end of the month.

I wish... it's tax, MOT, insurance, breakdown cover and extended warranty this month, so the E90/91 fund won't be geting much of an addition.

I could probably get an old banger for the same price as that lot!

They had a lovely E91 320dSport in TiAg and a '56 reg E91 330dSE in some sort of blue waiting for some lucky sod in the showroom though that looked soooo good. Not to mention the silver M6!

So if you trade it in you save a good wad - that's just the excuse you need isn't it? Generally find its when the better half's car reaches a service or MOT that I go the garage to get it done and come back with a new car....

E91 330d SE - just what you really want......

I just thought... i got lowered springs for free, and didn't even notice!

I've still got a year to go on the Select package I'm on, so it's not quite time to change yet. Plan is hopefully to move up to six-cylinders next time, but as that involves some saving 1st it ain't gonna happen this month.

Saving? I thought you just wandered in and signed a finance agreement and then paid whilst you were enjoying it!

cars depreciate so much these days that the concept of ownership is almost dead -= just rent one and swap it when you feel the need. That's what finance agreements are these days - they may purport to be purchase plans but actually you are just paying for the privilege of using the car till you give it back!

yeah, but I normally put down a max deposit to make the payments that bit lower (and justifiable). Might be the difference between a 320d and a 325d!

Cheers Paul.

She's back home now, looking great on her high heels - I was a bit shocked by how much the broken springs had dropped the back end... and I hadn't even noticed

so if yours is doing that after 34k and mine is now overdue a service at 31.4k what is going to be right about mine, what is the warranty period again 3 yrs or 60k mine will last a year and a half at that rate. Lucky mine is only a company car but still makes you wonder, mine will be fuked after I have finished with it.

It seems like every toe-rag and half wit 4x4 driver is giving you a helping hand towrards that though.

I reckon that the springs may have gone at more like 20k miles, so I'm driving like a real granny over speedbumps at the moment. That said, it doesn't seem to tramline quite as badly and the ride is a little more supple (or is that me going slower?).

The CD changer also started skipping last week, which gave more than one singer an interesting st...st...stutter . The dealer had a bit of a go at wriggling out of it as it turns out that the changer was fitted by them at PDI. But as I still had the original order which showed it was supposed to be a factory fit (with 3yr rather than dealer fit 2yr warranty) they're fitting a new one next week.
