What could cause a obd2 connection failure??

This all sprung from a well of me needing emissions soon.

I took it once already and was failed for obd2 connectivity failure.

When I attempt to connect my generic autozone scanner. It will kill the car if it’s running. When I connect my pro scanner it will connect without killing the car and read out.

There’s no codes. And when I did have codes. They were for evap system leaks. And a misfire.

I don’t think those would cause obd issues.

Any ideas??
