Swapping tailgate/bootlid on E91?
Has anyone attempted this? Can't find a guide at all and would love some advice or pointers before I attempt this! Thanks.

Hey,
I have a bare but resprayed tailgate going on so have to swap everything over from existing and rusting tailgate - was there anything you encountered that was particularly tricky or had to replace like daft washers/grommets or anything? Cheers. |

As with any panel, especially a hinged one, alignment is the most annoying bit, as it's unlikely using the exact same amount of shims your car had will be bang on, and there's a few points of adjustment to get it sitting right. It's also pointless doing until the spoiler is on. Gap should be fairly tight at the top of the roof but it's still not that tight. Make sure the spoiler doesn't touch the body as opening.
It's annoying having to pull the loom out and push it back in, but it's not particularly hard. Ground straps around the hinge will almost definitely break, but I didn't do anything and haven't noticed any downsides, you could replace with a regular wire to be honest, not entirely sure why they use flat cables. |

Inside boot trim isn't particularly fun either, large bottom part comes off first before the parts around the window. You can open the hatch by pressing inside a slot on the latch. You'll need to get it open to get it off fully.
Just work methodically really, took me a good 5 or 6 hours to swap them over. |

5-6 hours, noted! That's a whole sunday getting set aside for this job then as I need to swap the glass and everything else to new tailgate too. Thanks for the information, appreciated.
