Thanks Op, this makes me excited for the next M2. Just wish it were offered in DCT because I love my DCT right now. The rear stance also looks great in the pic you posted and the rear really sticks out like the current M2 does. With a more aggressive front end, the M2 is gonna get the look. Looking forward!
Got more pics? Especially the rear? |

This is the best I have of the rear quarter. I apologize for the poor quality. I was so surprised to have the opportunity for a test drive, that I never considered stopping to photograph the car.
The rear hips are larger than they appear in this photo and I'd guess that the next M2 will share the rear quarter sheetmetal with the M240i. But that is just an uninformed guess. I can understand your appreciation for the DCT. I had a 135is with that transmission and it fit the rowdy character of that car really well- even though I'm still partial to manuals. -Michael |

The real question here is-
Weight and Size? How does it compare to a current 2 series? This car in theory w xdrive should be over 300lbs heavier than an m240i.

Then again - maybe Bimmerpost was being cheeky? When an actual really positive review comes in, the only acceptable headline would have to be: "NSFW Photo of M2 owner in gym shorts during G42 test drive says EVERYTHING!"

Illuminated M trim/Ambient lighting
Does this car have the illuminated M trim? Is the illuminated part of the door replacing the ambient lighting in the M240i or is the ambient lighting not available due to the part shortage? Is the illumination just on the two front doors or is it in the side area of the back seats as well? I am ordering one soon and would appreciate if anyone has the answers

Ambient lighting areas are explained in the press press release and manual; and no this car does not have the $200 option of the M trim. Only available with Red or Black leather, also not allowed with Oyster leather.. very strange
Reason I know, I tried to add with my beige interior & build system added black leather for $1,450 also so I declined. Therefore most builds will come without |

Ambient is std for M240 and part of Premium pkg for 230i. Lights up the map pockets, door panel trim & handles, footwells, center console & storage compartment in front of the floor shifter. Also Illuminated M Trim option is not allowed with Oyster leather.. very interesting and none of the SensaTec interior colors. And yes, the safety lights on doors are std. also

ihbase I can only imagine your driving impressions would've been even better had it been the X-drive version!

It would be interesting to know how that system has evolved - both mechanically and on the software / controls side. The old system felt slow to adapt to road surface because the % of rear wheel slip felt constant - which was not always ideal. The G42 x-drive did not feel that way. -Michael |

Uhh. You drove the xDrive version. I somehow suspected this as you mentioned traction in the wet ... but we all know, that the G platform has much better traction in RWD guise than F platform in RWD! Just look at the first G8x reviews, where testers assumed they were driving already the xDrive version, which they weren't.
So at least the front page title should be adapted! Otherwise it is a bit misleading? |

I have to say I'm the complete opposite, I was shocked by how much grip there was in the rwd M3 and at how well it puts those 500 horses down - in the dry at least. Very, very fast off the line and with lots of grip around the corners too. Haven't driven the xdrive version yet but I can't see how it'd be better in the dry. Wet, on the other hand…

I got to see one in person when I took my M2C in for service, black on black. Can't say how it drove as the car literally just rolled off the truck and hasn't been PDI'ed yet. In terms of looks alone, I didn't mind the car, just like the G80, it definitely looks better in person. The rear just does not photograph well at all. The car manages to make the width of the rear tires look really narrow.
All in all, I can say I prefer the looks of the F87 more. Of course, the G87 could change my mind completely, but elements such as headlights and taillights are better on the old car IMHO. I will say the interior is huge step up though. P.S. I'd love to see one in Thundernight Purple though.
