A bit of an odd questions as I know the answer but I'm not sure what the official answer is (all will become clear in a moment)...

I bought my car at 6 months old with only 1,700 on the clock from Northern Ireland so I'm officially the 2nd owner BUT when I went to register the car in the UK (mainland) with the DVLA in Manchester they promptly lost all the paperwork and it was all forgotten about for about 8 weeks when I remembered I'd not received the V5c. I got 6 months tax from them whilst in their office.

When I eventually got round to speaking to the DVLA, and they realised they'd lost everything, we got it all sorted out fairly promptly so it wasn't really an issue; these things happen.

My car went straight from it's Irish plate to my private plate (no UK plate has been designated - will be when I take my plate off at point of sale).

However, when my V5C arrived, it doesn't seem to state anything about any previous owners. See photos below...

Has perhaps, during all this 'manual intervention' by the DVLA, the previous owner been forgotten about or is the clue in the 'was registered and/or used' in the special notes section .

Don't know what information a HPI check will unearth .

Any thoughts???

My M5 was almost the same Roger. Bought it from NI. If I remember correctly, mine did have an address in that field, but had previous owners as none with a previously used etc in the special notes section. Standard practice for cars that come over from NI.

So, the phrase in the special comments bit, is the clue - the first owner hasn't been forgotten, their details are just not noted on my V5.

That's correct. I believe that the comments section stays the same when the car is sold on too.

Yeah, 'was registered used' is the clue. Do you have the orignal NI info, as for future re-sale you may want to show it was only a main dealer, not 3xother users

I've got most of the documentation, don't think I kept a copy of the orginal V5C though, as I took to personally to the DVLA office (I always copy it if I'm posting). Got pdf versions of the main dealer advert, delivery notices, etc.

Not selling now though (have just bought 12 months road tax today ); just thinking out loud whilst I had my V5C out.
