If the folks with 2024 M2 blue calipers are reporting pads with weights and cuts vs the ones without (weights and cuts) on the red calipers…
Then I am very curious why BMW made it this way… I really thought I was only getting a caliper color change when I opted for the red calipers on my build.
Now it’s too late to go back and change it to avoid the potential noise.

Where do you all live where you can do 80-20 stops without getting plowed into?

Squealing is totally normal with performance pads.

All M cars and Porsches I’ve driven squeal when braking during street driving…

The pad type used could just be tied to the Brembo production facility around the world (including Mexico) that the caliper was produced in and the supplier (for example Pagid and Akebono) that Brembo is using there. The G87 calipers are also used on other BMW models in other production plants around the world, it just may be that the different coloured calipers come off different production lines before distribution to the relevant BMW plants.

It may also be the case that the different pads could be used in different calipers at any point in time, as different sub-suppliers deliver their product to Brembo. One plant may have just received a container load from one supplier, the next one may be from a different one.

Any highway early afternoon or super late at night. Easy does it.

Even with light traffic, you can get on the right lane accelerate which puts a gap on any car that is behind brake hard and accelerate again before anyone gets close to you.

I say 80MPH because that is the max legal speed in some states and most of Europe (130KPH). But other locales may allow braking from slightly higher speeds, which speeds up the process.

Best way to describe the vibration, it almost feels like abs is activating. Only happens when I'm coming to a stop, at low speeds. Anyone's else M2 doing this? It's hard to believe that my pads are glazed at just 3500 miles. I've never had to brake very hard.
Just came across both your vids on this subject on YouTube. I’m starting to have the same issue at 1800 miles, though not as pronounced, on my 2024 G82 M4 Comp (no mods up front at all). Was driving me crazy to not know what it was, then, in a rare twist, YouTube’s algorithm worked in my favor.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30609254

I haven’t removed my pads to see if they are notched down the center and weighted (should be?) on my M4 (red calipers btw). Still driving me crazy, and mostly worried now being at only 1800 miles, that my issue will get worse and as bad as yours with time.

Any fix that you’ve found?

Squealing started to be noticeable around 200 miles or so. Was pretty quiet before this. But the Brembo kit on my Mustang before this car did the same thing after about the first month

The arrow on the photo points to the upper weight on the pad, which can be seen through the spokes of the wheel:

Is that the clearance between the brakes and the 930M wheels or are they aftermarket?

Bad picture, but I can confirm two things:

- No weights
- No slot down the center of the pads

These two items match VehicleVirals video perfectly where the pads are one entire slab, and not weighted. The problem seems to be more common on the G87 M2’s with red calipers from what I’ve read and seen so far, but I supposed there’s an exception to everything, and my M4 suffers from the same issue.

Is this something we’re all just supposed to live with? Wondering if BMW looks at any of these posts? And if they do, I wonder if they care?

They are red. Two things in my case match your second video on the subject. My brake pads are not:

- Weighted
- Slotted down the center

It appears that aside from being red, my M4’s brakes match your M2’s exactly. Interesting that you put a G80’s pads on your G87 and they were notched and weighted. 🤔Maybe because they go on a four door vice a two door [sarcasm]. So, not so standard across the M’s, I guess. Surprising.

Sounds like I will be making a follow-up video. I might be getting to the bottom of this. Seems like red caliper owners are the ones experiencing this issue. Black/Blue calipers have the weights and slots and red calipers don't. Both pads are made by two different manufacturers that supply Brembo.

I will say this. After switching to the alternative pads with the weights and cut, I no longer have vibration. Not sure if it'll come back though because the rotors seem to have waves in them.

They are the stock 19” 930M front wheels, only a few mm of clearance.

I stand corrected then…. THREE things match precisely:

- Red calipers
- Not weighted
- Not notched

Man. I thought you had blue calipers until I rewatched the vids. Great content. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the follow-up vid. Thanks.

Maybe I'm alone, but I love the brake squeal (red calipers here). Used to street drive my E46 M3 track car which had the most aggressive brake squeal ever which I didn't always enjoy (PFC08 pads on that car), but this is so mild it's not a problem even though I hear it all the time at low speeds. Not vibrating at this point, but my E36 m3 racecar does this and the E46 used to as well at super low speeds (aggressive pad chattering on the rotors during light pressures from what I can gather).

What a shame... these red calipers are just not cutting it for so many.

Eh, it appears to me that it’s the pads behind the calipers on the red ones. At least for some. Not directly related to the caliper itself. I’m sure you know that, but just being clear for anyone that jumps into this thread.

Yeah I agree. It’s not the caliper itself but the pads that mostly comes with the red calipers that seem to be “loud”…

Guys, wait, have we devolved the conversation to saying the squeal is related to the colour of the caliper?
