Light Weight Flywheel Options - N52
Are there any good light weight fly wheel options for the N52? Something that still would be fine to street drive but still noticeable with improved performance?
Edit: Just installed JB Racing Light Weight Flywheel impressions on post 22 Last edited by Volasko; 05-11-2023 at 12:28 AM.. |

Thought about a single mass conversion?

Single mass might net you less chatter.... but I'm on the JB Racing Aluminum lightweight flywheel. It's solid... I can see if I can get a bs video recorded for you with how the rpms shoot up in neutral. I have no complaints with the noise. You may feel differently.

I tried too and so far the only thing I found is what Noir mentioned about the JB unit. Looks to be a massive weight difference (> 50% reduction in rotating weight) so I could see it being more suitable for track use. Looking forward for a video example.

3 videos for you, OP.
https://youtube.com/channel/UCe7Jg1e5qVN5t1dK4w__OXQ Sorry for the rough camera work — poor use of certain words (kept saying vibration when I meant to say chatter, at times). But hopefully this helps you make a decision. That flywheel is really bad ass.

Thanks for making the video, did you say you had your idle RPM upped? Your idle seems very smooth but settled at a higher level than mine. Last edited by Volasko; 01-18-2021 at 10:24 AM.. |

So from what I’ve read the n52 came with 2 different flywheels through the production run. Going by my poor memory one was like 17lbs and the other like 23 or something. I’m sure the info comes up if anyone is interested enough to search. I did the research for mine and I have the lighter oem flywheel. Comparing mine to your video I can’t really see any difference, but I’m sure the S/C adds some drag and momentum to your set up also. I wonder if you have the lighter oem flywheel if it’s worth upgrading to the aftermarket. How many lbs is the one you are running in that video?

Isn't the 3.91 way shorter than the stock 3.15 diff? If anything it should be much faster since you can stay within the power range after shifting. You are shifting a bit early though around 5500. Do you still have the sc on? I didn't hear it in the video. BTW is there any option to increase throttle response without as much NVH? I was thinking of doing the valeo single mass once my clutch is dead but since it weighs the same is there any difference?

2one3E90, durability is to be seen. If there is chatter, I can't imagine the fly wheel slapping against the clutch often being a good thing, but we will see. The original dual mass* fly wheel is at least two times as heavy? Or it may be 25 pounds...

I can’t remember and I looked for the info again last week and couldn’t find it. I bet if you went on realoem and looked up the parts numbers and all the “superceded by” part numbers you could find out. (Realoem has weights listed for part numbers)

Old thread, but I'm currently running a dkm organic twin disk (comes with single mass) and a ati Harmon balancer, I think the car revs a foot bit faster

Ressurecting an old thread because I just installed the JB Racing Lightwheel Flywheel (12lbs). I took videos of the gear chatter in gear and in neutral. Its significant but worth it IMO for my mainly track focused use. 1st through 3rd feels might much lighter on its feet. The fast dropping revs are also appreciated for performance driving.
