30 mpg

Hey y'all- I thought that I would share this with everyone. I thought I saw a post about how thirsty our M2's are. I got over 30 mpg on a trip this last weekend. The majority of the time I had cruise control set at 82 mph. There were about 10 miles of my trip while driving through Dallas traffic that I was varying between 40-70 mph due to traffic. All in all, I was pretty impressed. Not that I bought this car for good gas mileage. The next 100 miles were closer to 5 mpg on a track

Don't know what to tell you. I was even hauling my 4 track tires/wheels and probably 150 lbs of tools etc

Variables would include gas type/octane and "M" settings. Also, is car stock or modified.

Nice! So far my lowest mpg was 11 on a short drive in the neighborhood, the highest mpg so far is 24.5 on a long freeway drive. Average is 19mpg but for the most part I drive on surface streets.

Yeah, I never understood that thread about bad MPG. I get about 25-26 on my late night drive home from work, mixed highway and city. This car get amazing gas milage for something that is basically a motorsports engine in a 3900 lbs sports car. The S58 is truly one of the top engines ever built.

I think you answered your own question. coasting 40-70 mph takes a lot less energy than cruising at 80 mph. There's a lot of drag at that speed. Getting over 25 mpg is actually really good.

yeah i once did a trip 65-70 (not more than 115kmh) on a highway and it was around 30 mpg, at 80+ it can increase quite a bit in comparison.

30 mpg is impressive. Best I got was 26mpg with MT6 and over 300 miles so no complaints here.

100% of my miles have been in hilly traffic in San Francisco. I’ve averaged 11 mpg… 😂

Surely you can get decent gas mileage out of the S58, which is better than previous M engines, but only if you have some open road to drive on and drive below the peak torque band.

Nice, I am getting around 24 mpg with a mix of city / highway driving for the commute back and forth to work. Definitely comes down to a huge combination of factors; driving style, weather, traffic, extra weight (other people / items); M Mode ; road condition... just to name a few

This is the most efficient segment I have achieved so far, due to reduced construction speed limits, low National Park speed limits and quite a bit of single lane roads through the mountains - 7.5 l/100km (31.4 US mpg / 37.7mpg). 12.5 l/100km (18.8 US mpg / 22.6mpg) seems normal mainly around the city:

OP here-

All true statements. My engine is stock. Gas is 93 octane. The engine was in "as start" state meaning no adjustments to M mode etc. The cruise control was used most of the time and elevation changes was limited to overpasses
My trip was pretty much best case scenario other than my speed. I got better mileage when I was doing 70-75mph

For a nearly 2 ton/500 hp car I am very impressed.

Exactly, these are excellent numbers. Wish my X3 M could be in 2WD mode all the time to see what my new MPG figures would be.

That's pretty good gas mileage.

Helped by the relatively flat terrain and the A8 and the resulting low ~2K RPMs at cruising speed.

My M2 with its 6-speed cruises at 80mph with an RPMs of ~3K. I've not driven it any real distance on an extended road trip under conditions (including that flat terrain) as you drove your M2 but I doubt it would deliver 30mpg.

As you were driving if you would have looked at the HP/TORQUE displays you'd probably see at that speed the engine was only making I'd estimate around 60hp.

I was skeptical about getting to the 25+mpg since my average is 19mpg until… I got this from the app… yes! It can be done! Just make sure you are going down the mountains and then over 75mph. LOL!
