If I were to lease I'd probably get the G87. But to keep long term? F87 because I think it'll age better (less screens) and the performance is beyond "good enough".

I honestly forget what my intent was when I bought the F87. I don't think I went into it thinking I would keep it forever but within a few months I decided this is a car to keep around far into the future to look back on a bygone era.

I've made similar comments before. F87 is my daily driver but within 5 years I'm sure I'll get an electric car and turn F87 into a weekend car and it'll remain that for the decades to come.

I have a hard time believing that I'd be thinking that with the G87. I think with the G87 I'd love the car I have now and then eventually replace it with something else 5 years later. But it would have less of an emotional connection. With the F87 I literally look at it as a car in the beginning of its life and imagine it and myself in 20+ years still having it and remembering "back when I drove it every day"

I also love the F87 looks. G87 largely looks good too, but I prefer F87.

Count me as one of the few then. I will stick to my M2C, which is simply better looking and lacks that awkward curved computer screen on the G87 dash.

Throw in the extra weight of the G87, which could neutralize any minor performance gains, and that odd, angular rear end, and I'd take the F87 every time.

Lucky you. If I had a CS, or even a low mileage Competition, this would not even be a discussion, it would be hard pass on the G87.

These numbers keep getting inflated, the M2 CS's curb weight is 3517 Link that is almost exactly 300 lbs lighter than the g87 (not 450 lol). The same mods that take off 50lbs from the CS could take off 50 lbs from the g87.

And the general comparison should be between the f87 comp or LCI and the g87, and that's only a 215 lb difference. People are acting like the f87 was a 3000lb lightweight

(To be clear, I don't blame anyone for keeping a f87 CS over a g87, the CS is an awesome car. But let's keep our numbers realistic)

Harry Metcalfe weighed the M2 CS in his garage on YouTube and got 3,150lbs (1,429kg). Possibly a scale issue, so a few other folks have weighed their steal brake car and gotten around 3,415 lbs in MT with half a tank of gas. BMW's original PR for the car said 3,417lbs.

I took this from a thread over in the F87 forum. 3487 for a stock M2cs with 3/4-7/8 full of fuel. a CCB car would be another 40lbs lighter. An after market exhaust and lithium battery and you are certainly into the 33xx range. In today's world that's not to shabby.

I was simply posting this for reference. I will ultimately do the CCB upgrade and lightweight battery at some point as my car will be with me for the long haul. A 33xx is exactly what I want. There might be a time where I do a set of Recaro's provided I know going in that they are indeed lighter than my OEM seats and are comfortable. That would get me low 33xx, perhaps high 32xx. Another thing to consider is the physical size of the F87, it is really, really good.

Please don't get me wrong I like the G87. If I didn't already have my car I would definitely consider a G87. I would make it look better than it does. It would have a huge wheel and tire set up and would not hesitate to put a piggyback tune on it as the S58 is a stronger motor. At close to 600hp, the G87 should not be dismissed by anyone considering a new car purchase.

I felt the need to comment on my own post rather than edit it.

As I envisioned how good I would make a G87, I literally stopped thinking about the curved display. I have said it in other posts that it is a really a deal breaker for me. This is clearly a retro fit, not a designed feature.

I believe as time passes all cars will have this tech designed into the interior. This generation will be viewed as the transitional generation. I don't think this car will have the same nostalgia associated with it that other past BMW's have.

This of course is just one old school thinking guys opinion. Carry on...

Without driving them, there's literally no way to know. That should be the answer from most people, unless of course you need to use the back seats, then its F87. Let's just wait until people have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and see if this car works for them.

So having spent a bit more time thinking about this. G87 defo growing on me looks like, and I think in the flesh it’ll have real presence.

But if I had choice between a F87 CS and fully specked out G87, I’ll go with the CS every time.

CS Looks more classic, smaller package AND manual dials and physical buttons. I’d liken the g87 to how e92 m3 is size wise, it’s like the f87 was the real replacement for the e46 m3.

Had the g87 had manual dials and gauges tho..l that would have probably swayed me to the new M2.

For me performance undoubtedly would be better on g87 (I doubt BMW will mess that up) but for UK roads, even the M2 OG has more than enough power. And to be honest I think it’ll only be on track that the extra performance will make a real difference.

Honestly, the only thing I would want from the G87 would be the adaptive suspension.

Other than that I prefer the F87.
