HELP!
Ok. I have had the JBD installed for about 3k miles with no issues. Today I was driving the car fairly hard and then boom. Service Engine Soon light pops on. I purchased the JBD on craigslist so I do not have the JBD CAN tool. I have my Bluetooth ELM327 OBDII reader but I have to pay for the Torq app again because I switched from Android to Apple. Here is my question.
What app do I get? BMWwhat App? Torq App? Do either of these apps detect the "TunerDetected" code? I need to bring the car into the dealership eitherway and I want to make sure the "tunerdetected" code is not present when I bring it in. PLEASE HELP! I had the SES light come on a while back for what turned out to be a bad NOx sensor. I simply removed the JBD before taking the car into the dealership to get checked out/fixed(i was still under warranty). They never mentioned anything about a "tuner detected" code; I assume they would have instantly voided the remainder of my warranty if they had detected any thing. The general consensus from what I read before installing the JBD is that it will not leave a trace if you remove it before taking it in for service.

For the most part the JBD is just a potentiometer, meaning it just tells the ECU that the fuel rail is at a lower pressure than it actually is so the ECU compensates by sending more fuel. Therefore it shouldn't show up as a tune.

Not an expert, but I have to agree with this. I don't think the JBD leaves a "tuner detected" code. Under certain circumstances it can leave codes that could allow a knowledgeable tech to deduce that you were running a JBD or similar piggyback, but all the codes I have ever got I was able to clear, and I have had at least 10 different codes over the last 32k miles. I do have the CAN tool however.

Quite simply, you do not have a tune. Buy torque, check code(s), make a decision. Purchasing Torque is less than anything your mechanic will charge. It is best to be an informed customer, IMO.

A lot of misinformation here. If you run JBD at 100% and trigger limp mode (by stepping on it without warning engine up), then a couple codes will pop up.
This has happened to me several times and without fail the same two codes show up. They are related to fuel rail pressure "plausibility" and I believe that a smart tech would trace these to the JBD. Both burger CAN tool and BMWhat app can find and remove these codes. With the CAN tool, it removes all codes, so you'll need to wait for the SES to pop up again. I believe BMWhat app can remove just the tuner codes and leave the others, but I've always just removed all codes (after uninstalling JBD) because I'm paranoid.

Thank you Remlemasi! This is the type of information I've been seeking. I've read on multiple threads of different types of codes that pop up and I wanted to know what they were and what apps to us to remove them. I was almost certain the Torq app was too limited to do what needed to be done. I like that the BMWhat app allows you to remove one code at a time and not just all. This is the type of app I want. Where did you purchase your wifi OBDII adapter? Any suggested product line? |

As I am still under warranty I do not clear the codes, but the app does allow you to selectively clear codes. |

There is a JBD and a can tool advertised in this forum. Used might be the only way to get the can tool.
