It starts like this, but then ends up with:

Hate the front end
Hate ID8
Hate the steering
Exhaust sound doesn't sound right
Car feels too heavy
Why doesn't it come with DSG
Why doesn't it come with manual

BMW losing their core audience….

😝
Yeah
You read my mind!
I was talking about an E46!

Everyone saw this article says "automatic" not manual. See a lot of people getting excited about a manual that will likely not be in the car.

I will be disapointed if they do another CSL. None the less the only manual m2 will be base the C will be Auto and IX and CS or CSL defintley will be as they should.

Was thinking the same. No mention of a manual, which makes me sad.

If there is no 6MT G87 CS then the 6MT F87 CS will stand to be the GOAT

It's going to end up being the GOAT, I'm fairly confident in that and wouldn't sell mine. Got a few recent unsolicited offers too at levels below market price as interested buyers are hoping to snap one up during the market correction before values explode.

How much do you have to drop (ballpark) to improve on M suspension?

Yup! Not only is there less room up front, visibility is atrocious for tall person (I'm 6'3") and of course there's no back seat.

If it's rated at 473hp, it will most definitely offer a manual. No reason not to offer it given the take rate in the US, even if it's not available in all markets.

It's all part of healthy discussion, and we can all look forward to that exact debate. And let's be real, the CS/CSL is never going to be the value play. They are meant to be exclusively priced, limited volume, special vehicles so there is no doubt someone will be able to build something better and faster for cheaper. However it will not be as special/collectable or retain it's value like a CS/CSL.

The car that retains its value is the "value play". The logic that "oh I only paid 104k for this car instead of 140k but then I spent 15k on tuning that will be near worthless when I sell the 104k car for $60k" is busted logic. Meanwhile the $140k car sells used for $150k.

We’re obviously talking about what you pay new for the car vs what you get. As stated already, and obvious to any enthusiast, the CS/CSL, similar to other limited volume cars, are likely to retain their value better and potentially become very collectible cars. No argument there. However, you’re somewhat broadening the definition of “value play” with something that’s a little more speculative like resale value, and that’s fine too.

There is also some speculation that you are creating a better car by sticking an aftermarket suspension and tune on a base car compared to a special edition. As Johnny Liberman said about the CS, for example: "There's a 100,000 km of testing by really good German engineers that have gone into this car. You can't just replicate that by putting on some Ohlins."

So the idea that doing that is a "value play" is very much subjective, more so than resale value.

Cue the G82 M4 CSL and F87 M2 CS values going to the moon.
I would be very surprised if they didn't offer a manual transmission…
They have a manual rated for 473 hp, so they should do it. But we will see. They aren't offering a manual M4 in the Uk or EU, so if they CS a global model, they may decide to standardize it as an auto.

I find it hard to believe that it will be just 26hp above the basic M2. There will be a Competition in the middle , and makes sense to be 473hp , just like the basic M3/4 which come with a stick. Most likely the M2 CS/CSL will be 500/520hp max.

Nobody said modding a lower level car is the value play. All that was said is the CS/CSL isn't a value play compared to other trim levels, which leaves room to improve on the lower trim levels while still undercutting the CS/CSL price. Regardless, the main point of my post was to simply validate that it's a reasonable comparison and worthy of discussion. Otherwise, we'll all be drinking the kool aid and blindly forking over whatever BMW wants to charge.

csl isn't manual
Doesn't matter, it's a more powerful automatic car in the G series generation with a similar drive layout so it will be the more desirable. Why would anyone want a car that's down 67 hp with the same engine and idrive 8?
You're forgetting the already 50k+ premium for the 4CSL. Why would it become even more desirable at a price point like that with only a little more hp (you can double that with a tune on the m2) and idrive8 which many dislike?
The driving experience of CS/CSL cars can't just be replicated with a tune. Also the M4 CSL doesn't have idrive 8, it has idrive 7.
Yeah you need to tune the diff too, some coilovers, lighter wheels, delete the arm rest and comfort access, and don't forget special stitching.
