E92 Pearlpoint sports seat problems

Hello everyone,

I am new on this forum but have a problem / gripe which I wanted to get your opinion on.

I think the quality of the cloth / leather sports seats (and BMW service in general) is terrible!

The leather fits poorly and is wavey, even on the three seats that have never been sat in

They provide no support and you simply 'sink in' to the seat, meaning you end up in a very uncomfortable position.

You can feel the metal bars (frame) in the seat and the back rest. The metal frame in the seat backrest is very prominent and has a 'V' in the centre of the bar, which digs into my back.

Has anyone else had this problem. What do you think of the quality of the seats? I paid nearly £1200 to upgrade these seats to sports inc lumar and I feel they are really poor.

I have compared them to just about every car on the market (from mazda to honda to vauxhall to audi) and I feel the quality is unacceptable -> try pushing down on the seat and feel the lack of support - they just 'squidge'.

In comparison to audi's seats (or even mini) seats they are a joke.

Any comments are appreciated as I m having problems getting my dealer to do anything about them.

Cheers

Rich

well i havent found any such problems of pokng thru metal??

also when i have the bolsters pulled in tight i feel pretty secure and ready to near enough to go track daying!!!

i have sat in many cars old and and dont find them that bad?!

they could be better, i dont find i 'squidge' right down but then again im only light so maybe it would be different for like a 15 +stone geeza??

try few other bmw sports seats and see if yours are just poorly made or if it is all of them??!! either upgrade the seats to aftermarket ones?! or maybe eveb consider switching carS?

good luck with whatever you decide to do matey

I have an E93 with cream beige sport seats and find them excellent, much better quality leather than my old E46 with standard seats and far more comfortable than our old Mini Cooper with cloth sport seats. I don't have the Lumbar support option, I wonder if that is causing the discomfort. I would say though I have the adjustable side squabs set to their widest and would suspect if I were even fatter they may be uncomfortable!!

I must admit after my M sport 5 series the coupe seats took a bit of getting used to! However, I find them really comfortable now. I've got Dakota leather so can't comment on the cloth/leather mix. I hope this issue doesn't spoil your enjoyment of what's a fantastic motor!

My mate has a 320d e90 m-sport with leather and I find those fine.

The half cloth seats (mine anyway) have far less support and padding under your backside and they sort of 'eat' me!

I think the nature of the leather, with its extra taughtness provides the extra support. Its still not good enough though.

Anyone with the pearlpoint seats or m-sport oweners without leather who can give their thoughts?

I get my E90 next week and it has Merino leather sports seats. I had a sneak preview of the car after it came off the transporter on Friday. They look absolutely sensational. I'll report my findings next week...

We've had six Bms with sports seats (all leather) and five with standard (cloth) and all have been great, no complaints at all. Some of the other cars we've had have had abissmal seats, Mondeo, Cavalier, Astra to name a few. Scorpio seats weren't bad and MGs were good.

Regards

Chris

Welcome to the forum!

Is it 'half leather' you are talking about, where the side bolsters are leather and the main parts are cloth? What you say sounds terrible... that you can feel the metal underneath!! That definitely cannot be healthy for your back.

I still don't think I've got my (full leather) ones adjusted correctly. I have the base pretty much flat, but feel I need it tilted a bit to support the thighs a bit better, but when I do that the height of the seat rises too much

Hope you manage to convince your dealer this is not acceptable... and would be good to see a few pics of your car/interior.

Yeah, it is where the side bolsters are leather and the main part is cloth.

I'll try and post some pictures over the next few days.

Got to sort this steering issue out as well -> the car feels jinxed!

I'm sure it ain't jinxed! The car might just feel a bit homesick and want a trip back to the dealers

Seriously, hope you get it sorted.

seats

looks like you have almost the same spec car as me,E92 320d space grey, half leather sports seats, don't recall having any problems with my seats although I dont have lumbar support, its a bit difficult for me to remember though as my cars been in the dealers for nearly 3 weeks due to the worrying power steering fault [stops working on motorway] which I think BMW dont know the cause of!

I have an e91 SE with the sport seat option - so full cloth, and no lumbar.

Can't feel any metal anywhere (that seems really wrong), they're really comfy.

I do find them a pain to get just right , though - a little bit out and I get aches (I do high miles though) and a couple of the adjustments I could do with "half" a notch.

Probably moan about them being even more fiddly then...

I'm glad I'm no bigger than I am though - they'd be extremely tight fit if I were any bigger.
