Hi I need some help. I was recently replaced the spark plugs and coils on my girlfriends car which is a 2006 E90 325xi. It was running great until the next day it started getting a really rough idle eventually threw a p301 cylinder 1 misfire. I swapped the plugs and coils still nothing. Thought maybe injectors ? Swapped those too and still same symptoms. Need help, ran out of options. Also I failed to mention at one point I started getting a rotten egg smell which may be the cat ?

Hello...**First Time Post***
Don't know if I should have started a new Topic but I thought I should Post here. I have the exact same problem on my E90, 2006 330i. Cylinder 1 misfire and throwing a code of 29CD and yellow SES. I did the coil swap and put in a new plug(Bosch Platinum, quad elements), still no joy. I'm thinking faulty injector or wiring to the coil. I'm going to try some Chevron Techron first to see if that will clean the injector. One question I have is when I took out the old sparkplug I noticed some oil around the sparkplug opening at cylinder 1, is that normal? Also, anyone know of how to check the wiring to the coil and the voltage? Thanks in advance. Update: I think the "oil" I saw was probably dirty unused gas that didn't ignite. I had to trouble shoot this not too long ago. I replaced all spark plugs and coils about 50 000km before the problem. A plug had come slightly loose, tightened it up and gtg.

Ok, interesting. ...Still having probs with mine. I still think it might be a bad injector. I'll be putting new plugs in all the cylinders in a couple days and will post my results. Glad to here yours works again. Cheers!

Injectors are really to swap out 4 bolts hold all off them down and they are held down by 1 clips. The n52 injectors do not need to be programmed unlike the n54

Hello...would appreciate some help on this one.
Update: Swapped original plugs on C1 and C2. Dropped in a bottle of Techron. Tried starting. The engine turned over then stalled. On the first stall the cooling fan turned on and went a million rpm! The engine was cool so don't know why the fan would kick in. I then turned ignition off. Tried starting again and rev'd the engine to 1000-1500 rpm and did not stall. However, the engine is still running rough as before. I cleared the code (misfire on 1) and after idling for several minutes the yellow SES light did not come back on. Lots of gas and some black soot on the floor near the tailpipe. Any suggestions? PS: Should I start my own Topic or continue with this one? It appears the original Post has been solved. |

Technically yes you should start a new thread, but as long as the OP doesn't really care that you're jacking his thread so be it. I would start with replacing plugs(good practice), and if that isn't it then coils is the next likely guess. You can test coils kind of like you tried with plugs, swap them around to see if the misfire follows. Make sure the coils "click" into place as it sounds like your issue got worse. It is easy to not fully seat these coils.
