Alright whats the deal with dialetric grease on plugs?

Do I have to use it or not? There is so much mixed info on google that I have no idea what to do anymore.

If I do have to use it where do I put it? On the boot sides? the boot tip? Someone somewhere said not to put it on the boot tip. Someone somewhere else said they put it on the ceramic part only of the plug while others say no to that. Wtf do I do?

Which grease do I even buy? There seems to be multiple kinds of dielectric grease for different uses... Link to the product on amazon would be helpful...

edit* For anyone in the future trying to figure out the same thing it looks like general consensus is yes put the grease on the inside walls of the boot and on the ceramic part of the plug. "Very thin" layer is all thats needed. Got this info from this thread and this video.

google "vtt-precision-raceworks-coil-install-results-thread"

I put some on the porcelain of the plug, mostly to aid in the sealing of the boot on the plug to keep moisture out and to keep the boot from sticking to the plug. Pretty sure any dielectric grease will do for that.

I did used to put it on the contacts just about religiously before coils on plugs became a thing and old spark plugs wires didn't fit tightly around the body of the plug. I've never had an issue doing so, so I'm in the can't hurt camp. It kept the contacts clean and corrosion free.

Did more digging and found a thread and video about it. Seems to be the right way to go. See OP if you're curious
