Advice on JB4 Kit
Burger Motorsports has the following kit on for $1500. Does anyone have personal experience with this combo? Is it a decent way to start modding my '08 335xi for some light track use and spirited road and highway driving? Bang for buck is it a good deal? I am COMPLETELY STOCK at this point with the exception of B6 shocks and struts. The car is a toy, not a DD.
Here is the kit: BMW 3 Series JB4® 500 Horsepower N54 Package w/Stage 1 Fuel Pump Save $295.00 when you purchase this package together. Kit Includes JB4 Performance Tuner JB4 Mobile Connect Kit BMS Chargepipe with authentic Tial Blow Off Valve BMS Dual Cone Intake (Red Filters) BMS Replacement High Performance Intercooler Fuel-IT Stage 1 Fuel Pump Upgrade NGK 2STEP Colder Plug Change Kit with BMS Gapping Tool & Socket Burger Motorsports "JB4 Tuned" License Plate Frame White Burger Motorsports Logo Sticker Sheet (2 Pack) Official JB4® Logo Car Emblem/Badge JB4 Magnetic Cell Phone Mount TIA for your impressions and advice.

I would go the mhd route and purchase the parts separately i think all in i was about $1100 to go full bolt on.
Has maintenance been taken care of first? Can get expensive if not especially stuff like injectors run $1300 alone

Do you remember what items you started with? Looking at your list, excepting brakes and wheels, I don't think you can get all that for $1100. Just doing a quick search and I'm already over $1400 for a VSFR FMIC & charge pipe, MHD and WIFI connector, Vader fuel pump and DCI. I haven't added in spark plugs, DP or BOV yet. I haven't been searching around for the best deals on these items but I doubt there will be a huge difference from one shop to another.

I came in right at $1000 for downpipes, intercooler, chargepipe, BOV, cone filters, DIY stage 2 pump with MHD and the necessary cables (no WiFi for me). I'm also not afraid to use eBay for certain things . Regardless, with that JB4 package you'd still need to get downpipes on top of the $1500 price tag. I think most here are going to steer you toward MHD. IMHO it's the better choice.

First are you planning to run E85? If not the lpfp isnt necessary. As far as fbo is concerned i was talking about dci downpipes intercooler chargepipe and tune.
Again going back to E85 if you arent gonna run it and your plugs arent that old youll be fine on the stock plugs. I am using the stock diverter valves if you plan to run a bov that may drive the cost up a little bit $79 dci $299 downpipes $450 intercooler $150 chargepipe So $1200 my mistake for the parts and MHD tune. However you do not have to go with as large an intercooler as i did which would save you some money. Depends what your end goals are

Yeh stick with MHD.
That JB4 kit is a joke. $1500 for a load of stickers and some hot air intakes, no thanks. |

If you arent running E85 and are gonna stick with the stock turbos atleast If you drive like that everywhere once your tuned i could see you losing your license quick...just a warning to be careful

You are betting off to just buy DP's, FMIC, stage 2 LPFP...and MHD. Might get you 450-ish to the tires if you run the stage2+ tune with e40-e60. |

So I think it's technically accurate, but not true that you would make an additional 200hp, more like 150-160 |

Actually the word "possible" does not show up in the description anywhere that I saw.

I knew the gains with the JB4 kit were... "optimistic" when I saw the add. I'm just looking for the kind of input from more experienced enthusiasts that I am, indeed, getting from you guys right now. The consensus seems to be to forget about the JB4 in favour of MHD and buying parts individually. All relevant comments are being noted and considered.

We've gotten over 500whp (Dynojet) on factory turbos with several customer N54s. Email in JB4 datalogs if you'd like us to help you evaluate your cars tuning and ensure you're getting as much a you safely can from it! Tuning advice is a free service provided to all JB4 customers. - Burger Motorsports, Inc. So apparently they think it is possible. I am still skeptical. I know I won't be able to get 500whp simply because the best fuel I can get here is 91 octane. Doesn't stop me dreaming though. In reality I would be happy with 400whp as a gateway drug to more power. The consensus seems to be MHD and buy parts individually. That's the information I am looking for in this thread. Thanks for your response.

Yeah the stickers and other JB4 propaganda shit are of zero interest to me. I like to be the sleeper in the line of traffic. I'm just looking for opinions about the JB4 system and the value of this package. I thank you for your honest, if not blunt, response.

Oh wow, I just assumed they meant 500hp at the crank, which can mean as little as 400whp. But 500whp out of this kit is just plain silly.

The majority of people with MHD, FMIC, DCI, LPFP, and DP's are getting around 440-460hp at the tires on an ethanol mix type stage 2+ tune on stock turbos. I have yet to see a Dyno sheet showing 500hp or more with that combination of "bolt on" parts.
Is it possible?? Maybe if you mess around with the Dyno calibration 😁 |

Can you give me your laundry list so I check to see what I may have missed? I think I'm pretty well set but I have no first-hand experience with turbo system mods. I've done my share of drag racing but that was a long time ago and we ran NA big-block Dodges and Chryslers. Oh and no computers.
