I use the BMS Elite Chargepipe. Pretty stoked with it but I've had issues with it in the past. Pretty sure it was due to incorrect installation as I recently reseated the J-pipe, and chargepipe, no issues since

That has been documented many times. A metal charge pipe from China wpuld be better that that stock plastic one.

This being said, amongst the best one you can find ETS, Evolution Racewerk, VRSF is also documented plenty and good, and probably another dozen of reknown aftermarket parts brand that will do great charge pipes.

The evolution racewerks is the best quality charge pipe, made in the US, and their finish quality is second to none.

The MAD charge pipe is the best value on the market, with spot on fitment, a lifetime warranty, and an unbeatable price.

No complaints with my VRSF charge pipe. It's kind of hard to screw up a metal pipe.

People sleep on the MAD products, maybe because they see how cheap they are, but i've had them on lots of my cars in the past and have had nothing but great things to say about them.

Hard to screw up, but some people are still doing it. I initially ordered the BMS Elite charge pipe (for my N54 - maybe their N55 design is better?) and it didn't fit. I had to remove the throttle body to install it, then when I bolted the throttle body back to the intake manifold, the charge pipe was squeezing my power steering lines, pinching them between the charge pipe and strut tower. No thanks. On top of that, BMS claimed nothing was wrong and I had to pay return shipping! But hey at least they were kind enough to waive the restocking fee, how nice of them. I was also not fond of the mismatched hardware, things like a 3/16" Allen plug for the meth bung (EVERYTHING on my car is Metric, not SAE!) and two different sizes nuts for the two t-bolt hose clamps.

I ordered the VRSF pipe and it fit perfectly. No contact with the power steering lines, no removal of the throttle body necessary, 5mm Allen plugs for the meth bungs, and the same size 10mm nuts on the t-bolt hose clamps. Only minor complaint is that I wish the silicone couplers for the diverter valves were just a bit longer so the DVs can sit flush and still have the bottom of the coupler clear the flares on the CP, but that's just a minor complaint as they hold boost just fine. I also like the finish of the VRSF pipe better.

VRSF here. Had to file the lip on one end a little bit for it to fit. There were a few small nubs. Otherwise, no issues or regrets.

Factory chargepipe

Hey guys I've made the automotive suicide move by moving to California from Florida with my car. Does anyone have a factory chargepipe for the 2011 e90 I can get to pass smog here? It's been a nightmare dealing with it all and I can't find anything local or even reasonable on eBay. Thanks

Sorry to read about your hassle... surprised but not surprised they check that thoroughly on the visual inspection.

I feel like most of the charge pipes are equal, some are a bit higher quality material and look nicer, but as long as it is metal and not the crappy plastic one that BMW throws on it, then you should be fine, been running my VRSF Aluminum charge pipe for months, no problems, no boost leaks, and hasn’t shifted. Only thing i’ve noticed is that it does rub on the power steering lines when you install, i took the extra safety and wrapped the charge pipe in cooling tape to make it smoother and less abrasive on the power steering, haven’t noticed any damage since.

As long as you pick a proven brand, the results are the same.

The main difference is the finish quality, but that's mostly cosmetic and does not affect performance or reliability.
