N52 2007 328i Valve cover replacement

i have a leak from my valve cover in my 328i and im guessing its either the gasket or the cover, is there anything i should know, and what parts should i get or replace

as well as what torque specs are the bolts and such?

any tips?(i do not have a hoist, and i have a shop to work at with just basic ramps)

these are what im looking at getting for covers. i think one is plastic

Only tip i can provide is to prepare to remove a LOT of accessory items. (chassis stiffening, fuel rail, wiring harness, wipers & rear firewall/ cabin airbox panel... etc.) The more you remove early on, the less cursing down the line.

It wouldnt be a terrible idea to get a practice run at just trying to reach all the bolts on the VC. Inspect all the bolts to remove & what swivels are required to make it so.

It is a big job. I have done three VC's solo, but every time I wished I had a buddy with me.

Torque specs & "while you're in there" jobs can all be found elsewhere in the forum. Best of luck.

I would recommend replacing the eccentric shaft sensor since the only way to replace it is to remove the valve cover. Also, you don't have to remove the fuel rail, only unclip the injector harness from the injectors.

Other parts you could replace while you're in there: Valvetronic actuator, coil packs, and spark plugs.

You don't have to remove wipers. Just losen the cowl. For the ESS, check if the connector has oil. Mine had oil in the connector itself, but the gasket was dry. I replaced the part incase internal failure. Also, there's a proper procedure to remove/install/calibrate the valvetronic motor. You'll easily find tons of material on that.

Don't lose these bad boys. I used a tiny pick to undo the clips and left them on the harness.
