BMW cut spec without notice....

I picked up my UK G87 on Friday. It was started in Jan, finished early Feb amd arrived in the UK a fortnight ago!

It is amazing…

But, BMW have cut something from the standard spec - without notice or warning - and, of course, no discount on the price.

Can you spot it?!

They just presto deleto the rear climate controls plus USB C charging ports. That's disappointing.

Absolutely. For me, it is about respect. Or a lack of. BMW have been naughty. I don’t like that…

1- it wasn’t without notice. The spec sheet was clear it was dual zone from this year and beyond.
2- there never were USB ports in the back.

However, it still shows as tri zone on the UK configurator.

And it was on the configurator when I ordered it.

So, for me, there has been no notice?’

The tri zone was what I was interested in. The USB’s less so.

Please can you forward a link to when they gave notice???

Ummm. I think you will find that impossible?

For me it’s totally worthless. Like for the handful of times someone other than my kids are in the back they can have the same temp as me and the rest of the car. I don’t think we need duel zones up front if I am honest save some weight and keep it simple

Sure.

Go to https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/co...WM,S08WQ,S0925 (which should display the build your own M2 on BMW UK’s website).

Expand the “basic equipment” section under Standard equipment.

See “Dual Zone AC” under “Interior”.

Impossible is nothing.

Your turn: forward us a link or photo to where the USB in the back was removed (it can be a photo or link of it existing in the previous year).

Ummm. I think you will find that impossible?

What exactly did you win? LOL

So you were fooled by the misprint on BMW’s website… I wouldn’t call that winning. But, sure, there’s a misprint there. Nothing we didn’t know, since this has been discussed ad nauseaum here for a year.

Sorry for your loss. But to look at it on the positive side, don’t worry about it. It’s barely useful, and it’s another thing to break and weigh the car down. You barely see it too.

Wait….. you pointed out that BMW didn’t fool anyone and that they disclosed this change and now you’re saying he was fooled by the misprint? HTF would you know it’s a misprint unless you bought the car under the impression it included the described equipment and it didnt? That’s not a misprint, that’s misleading.

I’m saying the marketing material came out saying it was dual zone.
We discussed this here when that happened.

Then I went and found the first, most accessible information about it, and it says “dual zone” as well there.

I’m not sure where he found that information, I trust him that it exists. It is buried somewhere, so likely forgotten by BMW.

When a company forgets or misses updating information in some pages, that is what’s called “misprint”.
You could make the case it’s misleading, I’m sure a judge could make that case. It’s not ideal for sure.

I have my own gripes with “misleading”, such as the print on the configurator that says the wireless charger has a “built in cooler, to prevent the phone from overheating”. Clearly a lie. So they are not innocent.

In this case, most documentation refers to a dual zone climate control.

But you know what, I think they’re sneakier than that… they might just use the umbrella “supply chain constraints” to justify missing features.

Nonetheless, in this case, I think they forgot to update the site with that info since they changed it for MY25.

I wish OP success in getting reparations. I was unsuccessful in getting any money back on the wireless charger.

Doesnt dual zone mean separate controls for driver and passenger? Even what OP posted above, it states "common temperature controls for rear passengers" which I take it as its controlled by main/front controls.

I would have to see how its identified on other BMWs but my Audi called it a "tri zone" with the rear system being separate from the front two zones.

I believe OP was citing the last bullet point in the image he shared:
"- digital display in centre console, rear"

Gotcha...while it still doesn't exist, display is not control(s).

Per the rear ports, I was referencing my 2022 m240i that had rear USB C charging ports. I assumed (wrongly apparently) that the G87 would also include rear passenger USB C charging ports, but I guess they were another victim of cost cutting. I don't ever have people riding in the back so it's no skin off my back.

My dealer told me of this a year ago... only reason I went for the 2023 instead of the 2024 as I got my car in August and had the pick between the two.

I wonder what the cost would be to add the rear ports... I can't overstate the value (to me) of USB C ports.
