BMW uses AT&T for iDrive 7 and T-Mobile for iDrive 8, both which only charges $20 for unlimited data streaming and hotspots. Which in the grand scheme of things is really a bargain. . |

Yeah idk, been struggling with this one. I'm a tech nerd as well. I heard the charger is making people's phones heat up and stuff, and I don't want to have to remember to not put my phone in that cubby. $20 a month isn't bad I guess

I too am a tech person but decided against it since I use Apple Music and will stream via CarPlay. And I want to put my phone in the cubby and not worry about it staring of fire due to high temp 😅 jk about fire
I'm wondering if builds with this option will take longer or are more prone to delay due to the extra amount of chips needed |

Hi ya'll. I'm waiting for an allocation so my order is still fluid but I've decided against going for the charger and don't need the hotspot. I've already got a phone and a charging cable after all. I'll make do and don't think I'll miss those features. They were cool enough when free but not worth an up-charge and additional subscription fee in my case. I hope there aren't any more significant unwelcome surprises before I get into the build queue.

Yes it works wirelessly. From the reviews I've seen, looks like the connection is pretty reliable. Your phone should connect instantly after you start the vehicle

The car has an internet connection already, all the hotspot does is let you pair you kid's iPad or whatever to it. Pretty useless in a car this small IMO. |

I have yet to experience wireless (trickle charge) that Ixve been happy with. In my experience its a bit of a gimmick in terms of function but the concept is cool I suppose.
As far as everything else goes, you have your phone and paying for another service is a bit redundant. This is only my personal opinion and I do not like to tell other grown ups how to spend their money. I decided to save $500 + $20/ month. |
