Euro 2020 thread

Gathing up my fellow BMW and soccer fans. Anyone watching the Euros? If so, what team and players do you support?

We have had some good matches at the time of this post (currently half time of matchday 2 between Netherlands and Austria). Italy have looked amazing. Turkey have looked like garbage.

Still holding out hope that Germany can play with some attacking identity and make it out of the group stage.

Haha. It's nice that Copa is later than the Euros so you can watch them all! Admittedly, I don't have much interest in Copa America outside of watching Brazil, Argentina and Chile play. At least for the group stages. I'll tune in for more knockout matches though

Quarter final coming up on Saturday.
England v Ukraine in Rome and if England sidelined Germany then Ukraine can't be that huge a challenge.

Very solid chance it will be now. They should be able to breeze by Ukraine tomorrow, but you never know which team will show up. I think Saka will go back to the bench for Foden, but I think Grealish deserves to start as well. Hard to switch Raheem to the right side though when he has 3 out of their 4 goals. I'd like to see more of Sancho just because I think he is a great player. IIRC he had 16 goals and 20 assists this year for Dortmund.

I am sad that Müller missed his chance, but am happy that I will not have to see Löw destroy the squad any longer. Did you see Kroos retired from international duty today?

Ahh i hope so! It would be typical for England to win the hard games and then bin it on the easier games.

Have to say the first few minutes of Germany playing had me nervous, almost surgical with their passes!

Why did Kroos retire? Surely must be better to win for the country then a local team. Motivated by money?

He was really motivated to win the Euros because he has already won the WC. He is also a big family man and wants to spend more time with his wife and 3 children. My thought is that he does not fit Hansi Flicks pressing scheme and would probably be relegated to the bench and he knows it. I also know that he had a very good relationship with Low so that may also have played a factor.

As for England, I can't remember a time that the midfield was as selfless as it is now. Talent wise, Phillips and Rice are nowhere near Gerrard and Lampard, but they give everything for the team and link the play from back to front perfectly. Defensively they have been amazing, and they have serious squad depth. My only criticism would be that they haven't been dangerous enough from set pieces (Kane or Maguires egg head should have scored from a corner by now). You guys have a serious chance this year!
