Tony Horton's 10 minute work outs
Anyone done these? Was considering Insanity or P90X but they say you should be in excellent cardiovascular health already as they are very strenous.

I haven't done the 10 minute workouts but I have done both P90X and Insanity. P90X would be the easier of the two.

Like all workouts, just do what you can and push yourself. For both P90X and Insanity, I was nowhere close to in shape enough to be at the levels they were at starting. Don't worry if you can't keep up. You can track how well you're doing by how close you're able to keep up.

It's not that bad. P90X is good if you're not in tip top shape already. It'll help you get there. Insanity is definitely a bit rough, but also doable. You don't have to be in peak condition already, just do what you can and take breaks as needed.
If you find yourself breaking down and skipping workouts because you're too tired, you need to change your diet. With these types of workouts, you likely won't be cutting carbs out of your diet or on an extremely low calorie meal plan. You'll need to fuel yourself for the workouts appropriately. I'm not saying go throw down two cheeseburgers right after the workout, but make sure you're getting the right meals for the amount of work you put into it. When I did P90X, I quickly learned that my low calorie diet for trimming wasn't exactly helping my workouts, so I changed it around a bit. I still burned more calories than I consumed, but nowhere near as much and I changed my ratios around. My workouts got better, and I still managed to lose some fat.

I tried insanity, it's much more cardio intensive, so I think you need to be in better shape for it. I haven't tried the 10 minute workout. Good luck and stay committed, which I think is the hardest thing to do.

The only good thing that came out of the 10 min trainer program is the ab workout video. If you do that after a workout, it'll kick ur butt.

I am in week 4 of the P90X program. I just did the Back, Shoulder, Triceps workout followed by the ripper X. I gotta say I was out of steam mid way in the Abs routine. Great work out, I already feel the difference in 4 weeks. Commitment is the hardest thing I have to echo that one.

I have owned the P90X series since 2008 and I have made several attempts to complete it. Due to several injuries or home renos, my progress was interrupted (once when I was in week 11 of 13). Recently, I finally finished the full 13 weeks (just before Christmas). In conjunction with a vastly improved diet, I am now in the best shape of my life. I know it sounds like a cliche but it's true.
When I started, I also hated Yoga. Now, it's merely challenging rather than downright hard. Like Tony Horton says, just stick with it and keep pressing play. Things will seem hopeless in the beginning (I felt that way). I could only do 8 pushups at a time. Now I am doing 25 per set. Stick with the program as it is designed. They knew what they were doing when they set it up. I used to get to yoga and then skip legs and back and Kenpo because I thought it was enough and I couldn't 'find' the time to complete the week and I would just reset to chest and back (Day 1 Cycle 1). Good luck and post up your progress from time to time. Check out Beachbody.com and their discussion forums there. It might help with any questions you might have. Just don't waste your money on the supplements. Good nutrition is key though.

Just Push Play. P90X really works... I've done 3 iterations of it with months of breaks in-between. The first week is always hard, after the 3rd week its just a part of your routine. And by the way look at their success videos -- you dont have to already be in shape to start the program... Insanity, on the other hand, will kick your ass if you arent already doing cardio a couple times a week or arent able to run a couple miles at a time...

you dont need to be a cardio machine for this!! most of the p90x workouts get a good sweat going. The core synergistics is a good workout which always seems to get me, and the chest back days always pumped tired me out. Ab ripper x is great as well. the rest is all very manageable. You could be on the biggest loser and still do your best on these vids daily, just make sure your following a good diet and keep at it. Youll get better and better... and i think Tony even says that.
10 minute trainer is not that great. |
