My Dilemma: 2022 M240 or 2023 230i

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but would like your thoughts: $7,000 difference after taxes.

2022 M240I - Black Sapphire - Tacora Red - ETA 3 weeks
Shadowline
Premium Package
792 wheels
Lumbar
Remote Start

2023 230i xdrive - Brooklyn Grey - Black Sensatec - ETA 3 months
Shadowline
M Sport Package
Premium Package
797 wheels
M Sport package Pro
HK sound
Lumbar
Wireless Charging

The M240i is a beast and the 230i is no slouch either. Having a tough time deciding. Side note, does the M240i come with ambient lighting as is not showing on the build?

I'd wait and order an exact spec personally. This is a lot of money on the table.

If I had to choose, probably 240 for the engine, but I like the BG better (I'm biased) on the 230. I think you'd have less/no regrets with the 240.

Ambient lighting isn't listed because it's standard on the M240i. Everything in the 230i's convenience, M Sport, and dynamic handling packages are standard. Plus stuff you can't get at all (adaptive suspension). Part of why the price difference isn't so bad.

The 230i does get that black spoiler though.

Background: I have recently placed an order for m240i rwd, and I'm coming from a 16' m235i xdrive.
I also looked at 230i and when I spec it to what I like, it ended up being only like ~5-6k difference so, it was a no brainer for me.
I compared the value vs. some competition like GR86 & Golf R. but m240i was about 60% more expensive vs GR86, but ~70% more HP, so it made sense for me as well.

The 240/Supra is the best bang for your buck right now from a power perspective (I don't acknowledge/buy domestic cars). I believe the last time I priced an S3 it was more expensive than the 240, Golf R is very close, IIRC...and they have much less HP and feel cheaper.

F it. Just get a GT4 or maybe a Cayman GTS.

Seriously though

I'd go M240 if you can swing the $7k. Just got back from a night run on the highway. 6,300 miles on the odo and it still impresses me. Sport+ is just another animal. Comfort turns to a soft daily. 2 cars in one.

Only thing it's missing is a nice manual gearbox.

‘22 if for no other reason than you won’t have to be part of the “learning curve/tester” group for this new infotainment.

Another thing to consider, do you have any preference for iDrive 7 vs. 8 and interior layout? The 22 will have the physical climate controls and favorites buttons, the 23 will have the large double tablet and longer software support/updates. Personally, 8 seems like a happy medium between the tile layout of iDrive 6 and menus of 7 with updated graphics.

22s have double tablets as well. They're just not connected.

Made the decision this morning to go with the M240I. Just couldn't pass up the chance to get the B58 engine. Should be arriving in about 2 weeks. Originally, black sapphire was my second choice of colors after Portimao. A large part of the decision was the fact that it had the ID7. The interior looks more cohesive and I like the simplicity of the ID7 as well as the physical buttons.

I think you made the right choice, with iD8 being as polarizing as it is.

Plus you take delivery in the fall vs early winter.

You will definitely NOT regret it!

Black Sapphire looks great. As a matter of fact, that's the color I picked for mine. Mine is of course ID-7. And I agree, it is definitely a more integrated design.

When I'm pushing the car, even a little, I've been known to mumble aloud – this car is just fantastic!

Black sapphire also hides the ugly black side skirts.

I would wait

In fact I am still waiting. I could of had a 230 in May. But I knew the 240 was the machine. ( I have owned one). So I am still waiting.
It sucks but what you going to do. I have tried every dealer in my state and nothing. Found one in Minn wouldn’t sell it to me because their dealer rules are only neighboring states. I am two states away…I am not kidding. Found one in Fla wanted 7500 over sticker. This isn’t an easy endeavor.
