G87 M2 production delayed by several months - rumor
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com According to the latest rumors we have internally, production of the M2 for customers will be pushed back by several months. I think most of us won't get it until August/September…… and if some get it before the end of 2023, that would be a good thing. I don't know if I will still keep my order and will rather fall back on another vehicle. if some of you have had their order postponed it would be good to specify it here. Our demo car (HEA) is still scheduled for production for the sixth week of 2023, so for mid-February. My manager, head of sales did not tell me why, but it seems that it is mainly for a question of shortage of components and a request from Munich, to prioritize, the production of electric cars and models a lot more expensive for sales. I think this can change at any time in relation to supplying components for factories.

IF any of this is at all true this could bring forth a better opportunity for BMW to offer individual paint, which I would be greatly pleased with. I am more than willing to wait if that becomes a probability.

On the one hand, this would have a few advantages (OS 8.5, perhaps individual colors, etc.). On the other hand, it would be stupid for the people who need the car at that time (including me). My M340i is leaving at the end of October and the M2 should be there by then.

I came across this alleged news on the new UK allocations thread regarding the matter, but can anyone make an educated guess as to whether this would also apply to US allocations, if true?
Seems like a broad statement from my perspective. |

I have never been in that kind of situation of “ordering” a car without even having allocations available. I was fine with waiting until May or June having ordered mid-october and being 2nd in the list, but October (or later) seems a bit too much for me.
I thought on going for an M3 instead but the ones in stock are not to my taste and my guess is that a factory order would take the same (or even more) time to arrive than an M2. If a suitable one appears at any dealer I would like to pull the trigger but the price difference might be too much also…

Well, I ordered an RS3 in Daytona Grey back in May of 2022 cause I wanted to “Switch it up” but I’m first for the M2 with my Spec in the bank just waiting on an allocation. The RS3 still hasn’t received an allocation so I’ll still wait for the M2 if this is true. But if my sales guy gets news of the RS3… I don’t know. More time for me to save for the M2.

Gives me more time to save but kinda sucks that the most of the good weather will be gone before I get the car.
For the first time in a long time I'm planning on having two vehicles with this one enjoying the good weather and weekend driving while a good wagon needs to be found for a daily driver. |

Haven't been folllwing G87 incredibly closely. For you guys who have orders, how difficult/scarce has it been to get an allocation?

the supply chain issues at this point are out of control... it's almost hard to believe... its a simple car...
yet they have enough to prioritize the high in demand and harder to get parts for EVs? smells odd

Reading this is disappointing and I hope it’s not true as I don’t have a car due to an accident a few months ago, but I’ll still keep my spot at the dealership and just get ready for the long haul. I’d imagine a lot of people will cancel their orders if confirmed

It’s a rumor at the end (albeit, it does seem like a more accurate rumor), who knows what will actually pan out. I wouldn’t necessarily catastrophize yet. Having said that, it does seem like the M2 is not a priority for BMW. If this is true, then I worry about cool things like individual paint being offered in the future for a car that is not a money maker for the brand.

Prioritizing electric vehicle production is a pathetic excuse. What an embarrassment for a major automaker to even allegedly have to make this decision in January of 2023. BMW should have enough capacity to build both at 100%. Someone is failing.
