LMAO! Let’s just wait and see what reality is and then we can talk facts instead of all of this speculative BS.
I’m looking forward to seeing one in person.

Yes, that right there. I just can't get past the G22/80/82 front end. This looks much more BMW to me. But hey different strokes for different folks.

The bicolour wheels definitely show the offset more than the black wheels.

Has anyone ever bought a car in Mexico and driven it to the US? Odd question but I was curious if someone wanted the "base" non-leather seats if you could have a car built for Mexico, then buy it there and drive it to the US to title.... curious.

I have been guilty myself in the past with this built in Germany bias since I have owned VWs and other German cars since 1984. I don't believe ignorant people will ever change their mind but while I was ignorant myself I was not anti Mexico just pro German build. Everyone in my family has owned VWs and Bmws and I have personally owned 11 German cars from VW, Mercedes and Porsche. They were ALl UNRELIABLE. That is personal experience. My 2008 GTI made in Germany was the worst of all time. I swore off VW and part of it was my distrust of future cars being made in Mexico like the poster. But my mom fell in love with a 2013 Jetta GLI made in Mexico and bought it. I suffered with May 2008 GTi that had the engine rebuilt and replaced under warranty. Meanwhile 4 years went by and my moms Jetta had zero issues! So I'm 2017 I tried buying anything other than a VW but made the mistake of driving the MK7 GTi and I bought it new. We are 5 years into this made in Mexico GTI and 50k mikes. Zero issues and it has been the most reliable, best built German car I have ever owned. More reliable than all my made in Germany cars including my newest Porsche that has door rattles and a loose seat within 30 days of new and it was built in zuffenhausen. So the facts for me are as follows. German cars and BMWs are unreliable look at all the issues and for me the two Mexican made cars I have owned were more reliable than the German ones that preceded it for whatever it's worth.

The unreliable part comes from poor engineering. Your mom’s car was most likely better engineered. You didn’t blow an engine because of the factory personnel. Also I see your / VW fan. Never owned one but perhaps they are less reliable? My personal experience is that BMWs are very reliable (at least starting with my E90). My F80 packed on almost 90k miles in 6 years and I had zero issues. Never parked indoors. Snow, sleet, rain, driven daily. Built in Germany. If this were an old factory I’d be concerned but a new BMW one, I don’t think it matters much where it’s built. STILL - I want my German engineered car fully German, not partially German. Nothing against Mexico but I want my German car built in Germany.

What people fail to realize is that so many things that we, as a society purchase are designed and engineered in one county and manufactured in another. It is what it is. If you do not like it, no one is forcing you to purchase it.

An example from the BMW lineup. The current G01 X3 30i, it was designed/engineered in Germany and is manufactured in Greer, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The engine is built in Austria and the transmission is manufactured in the UK. A real hodgepodge.

Edit, The vast majority of BMW buyers are unaware of where their BMW was produced. The majority of X vehicles are built in South Carolina, which is what we sell the most of. I honestly doubt that many of them care. I suspect most would state that their vehicle was produced in Germany if asked. There are far more badge buyers at BMW these days than enthusiast.

I'm willing to bet that those who are concerned about the BMW being produced in Mexico have cell phones designed by a US company - made in China, a Japanese designed car - built in US, clothes designed in Europe - made in southeast Asia, and they eat Italian cheese manufactured in the midwest.

Yet, for any of these items, they never went on a forum to complain that the product was not manufactured where the company originated.

Stop feeding the trolls!

Clearly so. Guessing that he is fairly thick skinned though as his design language for the G87 has been catching some flack ever since various photos leaked prior to the reveal. FYI, his color preference for the G87 is ZB.

Eh my past 3 BMWs (E36, E90, G20) were all made in Germany

reliability has been ok for the e36, trash for the e90, and ok for the g20. I don't really buy that German built cars are more reliable

Owning an ///M car built in its country of origin, 🇩🇪Germany, has a specialness about it that is irreplaceable

That’s fine. We all have different things that float our boats, what’s weird to me isn’t weird to someone else and vice versa but that’s what makes us individuals.

It’s like when my wife buys Louis Vuitton bags, she makes a huge deal over making sure to get one that was made in France and not in Spain or the US. The thing that grinds my gears is when people (not you) say ignorant things about BMWs being made in Mexico.

A brand new factory is going to build very nice cars, they have all the latest manufacturing systems, tech etc.

Reliability wise i would imagine the new Mexico factory > any german factory.

I would place a bet on cars made in mexico being more reliable than germany.

It is your money and your right. I have owned BMWs since the E46 generation and I own two of them currently along with a Mk7 GTI and 2022 Porsche Cayman and recently sold my 2nd 1M Coupe and have owned one from 2011 to 2021. The only one made in Mexico is the GTI and it has been the most reliable of the four cars I currently own. Just offering that fact. My 1M Coupe went through fuel pump at 10K miles, armrest broke, charge pip blew. My E46s have gone through many window regulators, rediators, water pumps, hose, heater valves, expansion tanks, coils etc. You are correct that they engineering is the main issue but the point is whether made in mexico is bad. I can tell you that my 2008 GTI had a German motor that burned oil like gasoline. It was rebuilt once by VW and eventually replaced at 60K miles after it continued burning oil. When they put a new motor in it, I noticed it was not made in Germany, it came from some other eastern european country but I did not complain since at least they gave me a new engine. We drove that non-german engine with no issues after that for another 90K miles before trading it in for the current made in mexico GTI.

So the point is that for what is worth from 2013 on, not only have I not had issues with my mom's 2013 Jetta or my 2017 GTI. Furthermore, of all the German made cars I have owned, the Mk7 GTI is the most reliable German car I have ever owned...full stop.

I feel now that the Germany = top quality does not carry the same weight for me anymore. Germans cannot make reliable fuel pumps, reliable water pumps, window regulators, cooling systems and more... and if they break, it's probably not because they were made in Mexico but probably bad design and materials as you said.

No need to debate. Perhaps it got lost on my response but I said it doesn’t matter (from a quality perspective) that the car is made in Mexico. That doesn’t stop me from wanting my German engineered car made in Germany. To each their own.
