How to open trunk manually when battery is disconnected?
Dumb question but the n55 is not like the n54, there is no keyhole on the trunk door. I looked at the owners manual and no luck. Anyone know the secret?

You have to make damn well sure that you do not disconnect the battery and then close the trunk. There will be no way to open the trunk again without a whole lot of hassle, because the trunk is electronically controlled.
Two members did that... one ended up having a technician drive to his car (which was at the port), and then send a short electrical spark to one of the wires inside the glove box to simulate the trunk opening button. The other member unbolted his rear seats to access the trunk. |

To be honest with you, I didn't think it would be an issue, considering, I have never seen a car without a keyhole in the trunk for manual access. WTF was bmw thinking??

You've actually seen it and used it? I have an '11 E90 328 loaner today which DOES NOT have a keyhole in the trunk (I know where they hide it, I had an '07 that had a trunk keyhole). And there's no mention of it in the manual that is in the car. Consider yourself lucky

if you only disconnected negative terminal, you can put jump cable front of the car to start up electronic modules.
Otherwise, I think you have to have bmw dealer to fix it for you. |

I did this, and there have been a few posts on it besides mine too. If the battery is disconnected DO NOT CLOSE THE TRUNK (should be a sticky haha). The only way to fix it is to have your car connected to another running car via battery cables and then pop the trunk via fob or button. Really a terrible call by BMW engineers.

That's weird. I made same mistake, and jump starting method on my car worked for me for opening the trunk.

Jose -
like parky said. find another car or if u have an extra battery - with jumper cables, front of the bimmer, under the hood. attach the cable, red neg terminal. and hit ur keyfob- pop goes the trunk. add a towel and cover the rear lock.

Lmao! This happened to me when installing my CSL Trunk! We left the key in the trunk, plus the battery was disconnected!
So we were SOL!!! But luckily we were able to get a piece of wire, bend it and pull the latch that folds down the back seats and get access again! Funny shit!

oops, sorry for no updates. I ended up using jumper cables. You don't even need to turn on the donar car as it gives it just enough juice to quickly popup the trunk open. Took less than 2 secs

I got the CSL one made by **********s, 1 sided 2X2 carbon. It takes very little modification to make it all work.

coathanger
to access the manual release in our 2007 bmw 328xi, i folded down the centre, rear piece of the seat and used a coathanger to pull the manual release. i must say though the manual release and battery set up are rather sadistic
