How to pair bluetooth phone (Motorola E815 Bluetooth + iDrive )
I remember there were a few posts about people being confused how to sync and work their their phone with iDrive. Here are some hints:
To pair the phone the very first time with the car: While in the car with the ignition (iDrive) turned on, using the Motorola, goto Menu > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth Link > Setup > Power > On - This enables the bluetooth link. Now in the previous sub menu or Menu > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth Link > Setup > Power > Find Me. This will enable bluetooth to search for other devices / allow itself to be found. Within 60 seconds while the Motorola allows itself to be discovered, using iDrive, Menu > Information > Communication Settings > Bluetooth > Phone. The screen will read "Bluetooth connectable in this menu". At this point the two should discover each other and a prompt will come up to Add Device or Refuse the connection, hit Add Device. Then another prompt will come up asking for a passkey. The passkey you enter on both devices has to be the same thing, 4 digits. I used 0000 on both of mine without problems. Using Bluetooth: If you are in the car when a call comes in, the name/number will appear on the screen along with an Accept/Reject promt. Press Accept. The music will be paused/turned off. Using the volume buttoms/knob to control the loudness of the person you are talking to. If you need to talk privately, pick up your Motorola, go to Menu > Switch Audio. This will switch from car to phone. I am not sure, but I believe this to be on a per call basis. Meaning if you want to talk privately again on the next phone you will have to perform the same steps. If entering the car while on a phone call, ask the person to wait for about 5 to 10 seconds, this is the time required for Windows to boot, find the device, and switch it over from the phone to the car. The car automatically "grabs" the call from the phone. If exiting the car while continuing to talk, turn off the ignition, iDrive will continue to be on until you disconnect bluetooth. To do this, go to Menu > Disconnect Bluetooth. iDrive will turn off and the phone call will remain on your Motorola. Feel free to post any questions / corrections.

Can you provide an update on how your E815 has been working? How is the battery life with Bluetooth? I had heard Moto products are terrible with battery life when using BT. Any glitches when (if) you have had your CIP updated? Any comments would be helpful.

Since I've had the car and phone, both have been used pretty much every day.
Battery Life: I charge my phone every night since its by my bed side, so I cant tell you if there is an enormous power draw from the BT. I know that the E815's battery life isnt that great through. Without the car, itll last for 2 days with moderate use and then start beeping for 6 hours before it cuts off. Glitches: I havent found any. The closest thing to a glitch is the annoyance of being of the phone while getting into the car. It takes iDrive about 5 to 10 seconds to connect the audio from the phone to the car. During this time, you and the person you are talking to are cut off from each other. I've just gotten in the habbit of saying hold on as I turn on the car, as if I have to do something else to allow for a smooth transition I also have a 12 volt car charger for the phone, and if I'm going on a long trip, I might plug it into that instead of dragging my home charger along.

Thanks the opinions. Decision made.. picked up the E815 today. Now just need that car... unfortunately still at sea In the meantime, I might try to hack the phone to open up OBEX file transfers. From what I have read not too difficult to do. We'll see.

Actually, you left out a step. I used your original instructions today when I got my new 330 and what you forgot is that you don't do the FIND ME first.
You have to go and do the FIND OTHER DEVICES first (which is in a different location than the Menu you use for the FIND ME). The phone will find the BMW (with a series of numbers). Then, when it finds the BMW, THEN you do the FIND ME and the rest of your instructions are correct. Larry |

Connection problem
Hi to everyone on this forum. I've have tried everything to pair my two RAZR 3 to my wife's 2005 X-3 with no luck on both of them. The phones are compatible according to the BMW USA list. I did the following:
Ignition key must be in position 0. 1. A: If not equipped with eject box: Turn key from ignition 0 to ignition 1 or higher. 1. B: If equipped with optional eject ( I used this one) box: Press & hold the button above the storage compartment, then after about 3 seconds, turn the ignition key to position 1 and release the button after approximately 3 seconds. “BLUETOOTH PAIRING” appears on the display or monitor. Up to this point none of this happend. The phones just said no devices found. Any good advice on this..This is driving me crazy!! Thanks in advance.. |

without iDrive?
Does anybody know how to pair the bluetooth phone (v710 in particular) to the e90 that doesn't have iDrive? I've seen the instructions somewhere, but I've lost them. So if you have a link you can point me to, that would be great.
Much appreciated - Daniel |

I wonder if this thread should sorta be updated. I plan to place an order for the E92 soon. My current cell phone died and had to replace it, I'm with Verizon and Verison NO longer sells this Motorola E815 in their store. I would have bought it since I know it pairs with the 3 series Bluetooth. So I bought a Samsung 870 not knowing if it will work or not.
So what phone is BMW replacing since the 815 is no longer available at my Verizon store. I don't want the Razor, what about the Motorolla KRZR k1m? |

I just bought a motorola v325i (conicidence?) and took it to the verizon store and they hooked me up in about 5 minutes. It works great with no problems, I really like the hands free functions.

E815
I just picked up my 335xi. I notice that the E815 is not on the rather short list of BMW compatible phones. Can the motorola E815 pair with BT? The CA couldn't do it. Is there a trick? I am wondering if the 07 MY has a different system.

Unless you have a completely different operating system in the car, the E815 works perfectly with the BMW. Both my iDrive 2006 330i and my friends 2006 325i without iDrive pair perfectly with my phone. It happens automatically if you set it up correctly.
I have to say that it is NOT easy or intuitive to pair the phones to the car, but once done, it works great. So, I think your problem is just a pairing problem. I had trouble too when we got a new Razr. But, ultimately I got it to work. Now it's automatic. If you look at the STICKY POST in this forum regarding pairing the E815, you will notice that I corrected the original post and did a step by step approach to pairing the E815. Try looking for my post. If you can't find it, I'll locate it for you. Good luck. Larry in Los Angeles |

My E815 (which isnt the most amazing phone, but served its purpose) was amazing with bluetooth functionality. My new 500 dollar Treo sucks at life.
