I hear you Jake,, my main roadblock is the AWD, rather own a RWD Bimmer plus live in S. Carolina so vehicle will never see snow and hardly any rain either.
Tough choice, be great to have 382 HP, but RWD M240i not available until later next year

The main loss is if you like to power slide which I do at the odd occasion so M Xdrive would be preferable but it’s not enough to sway my decision. Maybe I change my mind after our first AWD BMW and go back to RWD, time will tell . |

update everyone... thx again for all the replies & comments
I finally decided yesterday to switch my Build order to M240i... yes it more $$ but extra 134 HP & ~70 lbs. torque plus AWD and a rear M Sports differential. Hope I don't regret decision, but decided was worth the extra $$$ for Long Term purchase... My 230i was never in build stage so i pulled it back & ordered the 240i via another out of state dealer only 80 miles away. Reason is, my local dealer wanted an extra $2,500 above MSRP for me to switch to M240i... urgh, I said no thank you!! Sales Rep stated past 2 days they started adding $2,500 to every BMW vehicle order due to the short supply... urgh

This isn't even a close comparison for me. The B58 is an animal in terms of sound, power, and tuning potential.
Also, xdrive would be a blast imo, especially paired with the B58. That would be one quick car off the line. The HUD deletion is a bummer. I'd hold off for the time being until it was available again. My M2 only has 50k miles on it & I don't mind putting another 10-20k on the clock anyways. I might even get a pure stage 2 turbo in the meanwhile & see what 500whp is like with a RWD manual

thx 6speed_M2; Issue is waiting until next year until parts supply improve is MSRP prices will most likely jump also.
Cost for electronic parts plus Steel, aluminum and rubber for tires is going up & I bet BMW & other manufactures will raise MSRP prices 3-5% in near future.. we shall see

Glad to see you came to the dark side, LOL. I had a feeling you would. To bad about the $2500 markup, my dealer is giving me $500 off of MSRP. At least they throw a bone to returning customers.

@vampire81 definitely understand where you're coming from. The launch is practically useless for us, unless we have perfect conditions. First gear is also not as consistent as we'd like in terms of putting the power down.
AWD will be worse in terms of the extra weight being in the front end but at least we'd be the red light kings. IF you're into that

@vampire81 I'm always shocked about the C7 spinning since it has such big rear tires. I think some ppl run up to 335 rears or even more. That car does not need anymore power! I love the 2nd to 3rd on the stock power.
I'm not sure if you're being slightly sarcastic with the 4th gear comments haha. My M2 is near 420-430whp at the moment. I run the forged apex wheels (18's) with 285's in the back (pilot 4S). I can grip off the line decently when it's cold but pretty solidly when it's warm. 2nd to 3rd isn't even enough to make it spin unless it's really really cold out, then it's a maybe. The xdrive is far superior off the line but when it comes to track racing where that's not a factor, the RWD cars should be better, esp with the proper tire set up. With that said I feel like I'd still like the AWD more but I don't have the experience with it to comment. A FBO B58 with xdrive & ethanol is about as fast as a Tesla model 3 performance is stock. Keeping in mind the B58 is on the stock turbo.

6speed_M2 the c7z was a crazy fun car.
i'm serious about 4th gear but that's due to the dirty roads here! i test drove my brothers' F36 with DP and tune. the thing flies. and i loved the B58 in my x3 (sold). i don't race or track. just weekend cruise. the only thing i'm gonna miss is the dct.

I'm assuming its the start week. You can call the BMW Corporate genius line and confirm with them. I spent a good amount of time with them on the phone and they were extremely helpful regarding timing/options etc. My build is week 44, 1st of November, delivery late December.

This has been my big question, though I was comparing the M340i vs the 330i...then the G42 came out and I did not have a similar choice. I would never consider an XDrive for me, unless the car had much more power...like that of an M5 or M550 for example.
That said, I ordered a 230i with the M Sport and Dynamic Handling Pkg, nothing else. I wanted a car that would handled the best. The B48 four cylinder is plenty of power and will have easy tunes in the coming year to make it almost the same power-to-weight ratio as an M240. The current G42 M240i XDrive is a monster and worth the money, just not to me. I have a Jetta GLI now and love it. With the right tire underneath it is a great handling car, and my new 230i will have an aftermarket tire/wheel set too. In the end, get the car that meets your wants/needs. Don't spend the extra scratch unless you need all the power. Of course, just wanting is fine too. For me, I neither need it nor want it. I'll drive fast enough with a 230i...and my 230 will out handle a M240i X Drive for sure. |

Interesting Dinosaur... I had the 230I on order w/M Sports and 19" wheels but changed my mind 6 weeks after build order and switched to the M240.
Many folks feel the M240 is closer to real life > 400 HP and X-drive will handle all that power plus run 0-60 in 4 seconds.. damn close to M2 territory plus has rear M sport Differential & the X-Drive is in RWD mode when not being pushed

While the power and speed is certainly on another level don’t forget the engine character when comparing these. The I6 and I4 has a very different feel to them. The BMW I6 will feel more special and sophisticated to most with its superior natural balance and strong but silky smooth delivery. It’s a big heart in a smallish car, half a V12

My thoughts are the m240s are less likely to lose options before the 230s. For that reason we went with m240. I don't know if that's true or not, but that was some of the logic.
That and the B58 is silky smooth. And all wheel drive.

Yeah, after some recent comparisons, the six cylinder is so much nicer to drive than the four. It's not even about the raw power, it's the linear nature. Push a little, get a little Push more, get more. Totally predictable, no surprises or weird lags like in my turbo four.
