MG Cyberster

The first 2 seater drop top EV (except the very limited run Tesla Roadster from many years ago) is upon us:

https://www.mgcyberster.co.uk/

Think I'll put an order in.

Looks pretty decent, and they beat Tesla to it How long ago was it Musk mentioned his 2000hp roadster? 10 years ago?

Cybersteer would of sounded better than Cyberster though.

Indeed an interesting car. The doors seem awkward in their application, I’m supposed to be invited to my local MG when they have their demo in.

I’ll share some pics and thoughts then. The top spec for ‘just’ £5k more seems good value for the performance and looks on offer.

Indeed. I have just ordered one (pending test drive approval), and went for the top model for that reason.

I'm in two minds about the rear arrow indicators. Seems a bit telly tubbyish to me and road works arrows. Better than the tacky Audi sweeping indicators though I suppose.

I like it. Didn't the Top Gear video suggest the lower powered one might actually be the better one?

Either way, as long as you aren't expecting an EV version on MX5, I think it could be fun

MG aren't hanging around are they. Really seem to of tapped into the right market, almost guaranteed to see at least 10 of them on my way to and from work everday.

They put all the tech in you can need, 3.2s to 60 the only thing that puts people like us off is probably the MG badge! fair play to them.

I love my EV but I'm not sure I want my fun car to be one - part of the fun is the driver involvement and the point and squirt of an EV dont quite fit for me for a sports car....

But I will keep an open mind, it would be an obvious replacement for the Mini. Except for the cost!

Bung a fat git in it and you are over 2 tonnes

You really do need Electrotherapy if you pick one of these over a 718, MX5 or Alpine

I guess it depends on what you planning on doing with it. I bought my Boxster as a I wanted something to replace the outgoing 350Z, sporty but also needed to be practical. For the 5% of the time (if that) I really got to properly drive it, it was great. The rest of the time, less so.

You aren't going to buy one of these for track days, or if you spend every weekend hammering deserted moorland roads, but if you want a two seater than is quick and reasonably fun, whilst being usable on a daily basis, this could well tick all the boxes.

Yes, red with the black roof and red interior.

Considered silver with the red roof, but the I-Pace is silver. Quite like the yellow too, but think the sensor on the door shows up too much and spoils the look.

Dealer is getting their test drive vehicle in late June, and my car will arrive July/August/Sept.

Exactly, too many judge everything by their or their alter egos use, if we all wanted the same things it would be a very dull market...

But I guess if you have an Alpine and then say you might buy a GR86 then you have blinkers on for what others might need...

Exactly this. It isn't going near a track, it's going to be a commuter vehicle, and it's going to be the trip my wife and I use whenever we need to go somewhere for work or pleasure without the family. That means a trip of ~500 miles once or twice a month. I live in the south of England, and driver's roads don't really exist - at least not without being choked by traffic.

It's just about practical enough to do what we need, and for anything more we'll still have the I-Pace.

Nice. I think that was the option I choice when I was playing. Not that I'm currently ordering one

The top gear video says is bigger than it looks, bigger than a MX5, Z4 etc, more like a 6 series convertible.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh as the front looks a bit 80's in the pics.

For me if they dialled back the Lambo doors and had those Aston Martin style doors that open at a slight upward angle and hadn't put the silly arrows on the back it would be a cracker, but I can see them selling very well regardless.

I think it's close to F-type size rather than 6 series that was 4.9 metres long this is 4.5.

Agreed and Agreed.
The doors are outrageous for the money and will be a real show stopper. However I did see a couple of online reviews and they seemed hyper sensitive to proximity. The guy took 4-5 attempts to get in. Perhaps calibration will sort and the chap didn’t know what he was doing!

Also agree, I think it looks Z4 ish / F type sized.

Damn, that is a sharp looking car. Trouble is I don't know if that low shark nose works with EU and US pedestrian and bumper impact rules. As is, it's perfect other than the stupid arrows in the rear lights. I wonder if an ICE could go in something that shape. It would certainly save weight, but maybe you need a 120° V6 or a flat-four to get it under that lovely bonnet line.
