Hitch for bike rack?
Does anyone know of a company producing a hitch for the g42 platform yet? If there's an owner in Washington State that would also want a hitch for their g42. This company will build one for free and use their car for measurements to produce one for the rest of us that would be interested in mounting a bike rack.
https://torkliftcentral.com/ It does appear upon further inspection that BMW has considered a hidden hitch option based on the cutouts for the rear valance. |

I am in the same boat!
I had a Stealth Hitch for my 19' F22 and it worked great with my 1Up bike rack. Emailed StealthHitch a while ago about a G42 version with no response as of yet. I have a local hitch installer that has done a lot of StealthHitch installs and is interested in trying to see if my F22 StealthHitch will be adaptable for the G42. I'm a bit skeptical, since they are different platforms, but I think it's worth a try. I'm going this week, and if we achieve success, I'll let you know. The frustrating thing is yes!, a drop out type hitch is available in the European market. Go to the BMW UK website and build a G42 on the configurator and a hitch and a tray style bike rack is an option. At some point we may be able to order the parts from overseas, but at this early stage in the game, it's not an easy task to find, ship and install this accessory here in the US. Yes, I believe the cut out on the rear bumper is for a hitch. Other bike hauling options are really big compromises for me. I could stuff a bike in the back of my F22 with the front wheel off, but that's messy and a hassle, to do on a regular basis. Never been a fan of roof racks, especially since I park in a garage below my apartment with limited clearance. The Seasucker, suction cup mount is intriguing, but also basically a roof mount. Right now I'm just using my wife's car with a hitch to haul bikes, until a solution for the M240 comes around.

I don't have any trust issues with the SeaSucker system, I think it's pretty well engineered.
There are two issues which prevents me from just going out and ordering one: 1) Clearance; I wish I could test one out in my apartment's parking garage. It's not like a private home where I could just mount it in a driveway. 2) If it was only for a road bike, I'd have no problem. But slinging my MTB and my Fatbike up on the roof of me new car, I'm a bit leery of. I'm going to continue to explore the hitch install first, but if that's a dead end, a single SeaSucker is not too crazy expensive, and I might give it a try. Also, the SeaSucker is way lighter to store and carry around than my 1Up rig.

Looked at the sea sucker option and would sure like to see a picture of one on the g42. Curious if it would mount to the back glass and the sunroof glass instead of it attaching to the paint. I also have been using the 1up rack for years with my golf r and really like the fact that it's not on top of the car. Mountain bikers getting dirty you know?

What an awesome offer! That company always has had an ongoing offer of doing the first vehicle for free. I would be willing to buy that one from you at retail for your trouble. They are located in Kent. Not sure how far that is from you. I'm happy to give them a call to get the details if you're interested.

Nope. I contacted all the usual suspects they have no G42 hitch on the pipeline. I talked to Stealth Hitch and they said they'd be willing to build one if someone in the Atlanta, GA area volunteers their car for a few days. I've ordered the BMW Roof Rack/Crossbars in the meantime and will use a Thule TopRide.

I'm still going to explore the F22 StealthHitch conversion. I was sidelined with some health issues for a while and the bike rack was not a priority. Recovering and looking forward to riding soon so will try and pick up on that

Has anyone heard anything new on this subject?
I also contacted Stealth Hitch, their response below did not sound encouraging in the near term. Thank you for your interest in Stealth Hitches. The BMW 2 series is all new in 2022 and we have not yet looked at a new hitch for that vehicle. Based on the volume of hitches for that vehicle and the current backlog in Engineering, I do not anticipate that hitch being available anytime soon. |

One more bit of info, I received the response below after emailing etrailer.com concerning second gen 2 Series hitches. I don't really believe the following to be the case though they did add a caveat to cover themselves.
It looks like the second generation started with the 2021 model year so I imagine the trailer hitches that fit a 2021 will fit a 2022 but I unfortunately don't have a way to verify that since none of our manufacturers have confirmed a fit for the 2022 yet. |

I bought the 3 series rack from Stealth Hitches. It isn't an exact fit but it's not far off, all I had to do was trim some metal off mounting flanges and oval out the 4 holes to allow the receiver to mount lower.

I finally gave up on waiting as well. Just put my order in for the same thing. Hopefully it goes as easy as you're making it out to be. I'll report back after it's installed and will try to provide photos for anybody that might be interested.

So just an update. Hitch fully installed. Ordered a stealth hitch for a 2022 340. Installation straightforward and contrary to Kmtbs that did this I did not have to modify the hitch at all. No tabs needed to be cut. However, the hitch does set a little higher than the bottom of the rear. My solution ended up being trimming the bottom of the rear valance as opposed to elongating the holes in the hitch. Really was not wanting to affect the integrity of the hitch itself and the trimming was minimal maybe a quarter of an inch? Trim is completely not noticeable when the hitch is installed and barely noticeable when not. As I usually keep my hitch on the car, this does not bother me at all. Will post photos in the next couple of days if anybody's interested in the final result.
