$374k V $132k

Had a look at the Australian Porsche configurator this morning and optioned up a 911T to as closely match my Brooklyn grey G87. The closest hue Porsche has to Brooklyn grey was a paint to sample named `sport classic' at $20,340, the carbon fibre roof $7,470, the list goes on. My point is what amazing value for money the G87 is at $132,700 compared to the 911 Carrera T at $374,000...subjectively the 911 isn't $242,000 better than the amazing G87. For the record I have had three factory orders with Porsche and I can assure you there will not be a fourth at the prices they are now demanding when cars like the G87 exist.

Porsche has becoming an MLM scheme, and I completely refuse to support their shitty business practices. Things weren't this bad before COVID. Every time I've walked into a Porsche dealership since I've been treated like crap just to sit in a Cayman S or base Carrera and try to order something like a GTS or a GT4. Porsche can suck my balls. I wouldn't buy one even if I had the money to. Z06 and Audi R8 are more unique products for less money.

Agree totally, after waiting 18 months for an allocation for a 992 GTS and then told I couldn’t have the PTS colour because blah blah blah… I test drove a manual M2, placed my order and my car was built delivered and on the road within 5 months. I’ve had the M2 since January and absolutely loving the car… while over at Porsche I’ve heard nothing about the 992.2 which I’m on their wait list… and now everyday driving the M2 is everyday thinking I don’t need the 992 GTS!
This G87 M2 is an amazing luxe sports car at great value!

You were going to drop north of $180k (US) on a 992 GTS and backed out because you couldn’t get PTS then bought a black M2? Suuuuuurrreeee. The standard 992 color palate is very good, PTS (or dare I say PTS+) is the cherry though.

I haven’t backed out on the GTS as Porsche has held my deposit and put me on the wait list for the 992.2 generation now but they cannot confirm any details of PTS and other options I wanted on the 992.1. It’s not outrageous to want a PTS+ when your spending as you say north of $180k USD (here in Australia $450k AUD) and then being a little miffed when after 18 month wait told you cannot have PTS because Porsche Germany decided to switch PTS off in Australia…. Not what I consider good customer relations…. So loving my awsome manual BSM M2 on a daily basis…

I had a Carrera T allocation last fall and passed because my spec would have been $145k USD. It felt excessive for what you are getting (6mt 379hp rwd). Tbh, the car did not drive like a $145k car either. I ended up keeping my g87 as I felt it does 85% of what the 911 could do at 50% of the price. I needed something with back seats to take the kids around but at $145k if 2 seats is ok, I would step up to a 991.1 gt3 or step up to a 991.2 gt3 (for a little bit more money). The way Porsche has priced new 911 is just ridiculous. My next addition to the garage is def some form of 991 gt3.

If you need back seats the 911 is not the vehicle for you regardless of trim. I’m sure the m2 does 85%, but that last 15% is what makes the 911 special. The 911T is about as perfectly balanced as you can find right now. You really don’t need more than 390hp at 3200lbs and the numbers show it.

M2 back seats is bigger and it’s a better daily usable car especially when we have to lug some things around in the trunk. Tbh, I just don’t think the T is special enough for $140k. It’s a base model with a manual and LSD. It’s absurd that a $110k base model don’t have these things and Porsche makes you pay extra $15k for the T for that. The light weight glass etc and other T performance options are available on the C2S. At around the same price range I think a 991.1 gt3 or if you spend a tiny bit more for a .2 gt3 is a much more compelling car. At least this is my opinion after driving everything. I just couldnt bring myself to complete my T order knowing I will still chase after a GT3.

Certainly fair points. I will correct a few things though - the T is a base with 15k of sport options (PSE, light weight glass/insulation, Sport Crono, and SPASM) plus the abolity to option a manual. Some of which, as you mentioned, you need to go up to the S to get. The S starts at 131k without adding these options, but you get a bunch more HP. 991.1 GT3 have the notorious 10 year warranty motor issue and are PDK only. 991.2 are still going for 180k used out of warranty. Porsche’s ain’t cheap, but they’ve spent the last 60+ year perfecting the 911 and it shows the secons you get behind the wheel.
Enjoy your M2. Without a doubt an incredible vehicle!

Porsche are great cars. Price of entry is just so high. If I have to buy a .1 gt3 today I will look for a CPO with a G6 motor. Some Rennlist member have been successful in extending their Porsche warranty on CPO cars for another 3 - 4 years on top.

Here in Australia Porsche motor cars still have only 3 years of factory warranty, where as BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz come with 5 years. In this day and age I think 3 years is subpar for a prestigious brand such as Porsche. For the record I have never kept a Porsche out of warranty...and believe me Porsche cars do have warranty claims within that first 3 years! Hence, the G87 has delivered peace of mind for that first 5 years of ownership.

The same people who compare their 911s to Ferraris and McLarens. Every car maker has brand whores chasing the next, most expensive thing to show off. Believe it or not, some of us here like BMW for the sake of it.

I do very much like my BMW and the fact it is $242k cheaper than another well known car brand...jealous no, smitten yes!

As a fellow Australian, I concur. The problem with Australia is our luxury car tax which is still understandably less than some other nations with import taxes…but still.
Especially, when it comes to resale depreciation hits hard.

Fully agree, the Porsche thing is beginning to become very cult like and you certainly require very deep pockets to worship at the Temple of Porsche these days...
