Had they not then the whole 2er Would have been driven by its front wheels.
One quote I have heard is that it's a Z4 Coupe.
Goodwill is bogus. What is left to represent M ethos without the back-to-the-basics M2? 1800kg+ porker M3~8? Standalone X8 trucks?

Throwing a bone to a dog attitude will not reclaim lost customers; showcase of passion and dedication is what the brand needs. BMW has become a follower instead of a segment leader in performance and technology, with model portfolio clearly benchmarking that of AMG while lacking their mechanical substance. Where are halo models with latest hybrid technology, aerodynamics, carbon composite components and DCT?

Enthusiasts will treat a follower brand as such.

I think its still too early to tell what will be of the new M2, however I agree with this statement with regards to the newer M3s and M4s. In my opinion they have lost all the features that defined an M car by making it ridiculously big and heavy, plus other visual cues which have made the G8Xs look generic.

I hope the M2 doesn't follow that path, although the spy shots seem to be partly showing otherwise.

Don't be fooled by the camouflage: front end and rear end are hidden under large sturdy plastic add-on camo parts. The G87 M2 does not feature a nose that bulky.

And the small add-on parts on both sides near the C-pillar / fuel cap: BMW is hiding whether the car still features a Hofmeister kink (very likely affirmative) and whether a BMW logo will be added, as happened on the X2 (possible, because AFAIK no F87 test mule ever featured camo at that spot).

Brief, we are required to use our imagination, trying to "think away" those fake add-on parts.

From 07:16 onwards:

Enjoy that C63 with a 4 cylinder plug-in hybrid then.

As far as I'm concerned, BMW has very little competition when it comes to the G8x M2/3/4 when you look at what's out there (at this price range).

Looking promising...I don't think the car will be much bigger than the F87

Straight 6 = BMW, never give that up

It's chassis basis is the Sports Car variant (Z4/Supra) of Longitudinal CLAR (CLuster ARchitecture), with an added section from the 35up variant found in the 8er coupe to extend the wheelbase slightly and accommodate 2nd row seating.

I'm betting G87 will have S58, adaptive, CF roof, and improved interior. And it will outperform F87 in every way...just like G82 outperforms F82. If not, why on earth would anyone trade up?

Looks are a different deal, and some won't like increased size (I'm betting roughly E92 size). For me, the G87 may be a potentially perfect replacement for my current M3. If the c/cs version is good enough, I may let my F87 go too.

Size doesn't increase dramatically with the exception of track/body width. G42 is as wide as current F87 with G87 increased even further. The G87 is going to be a rather special car. It will be the final non-hybridized ICE volume production model released, starting with a 450ps 6MT Pure.

Any ideas if this will be the last available M car available with a manual transmission?

Yeah it does look softer than the F87. The front is less aggressive and the line running across the side of the car is higher than I'd like it to be, traditionally it ran lower in line with the door handles which IMO looked sportier.

I hope you're referring to the rendering. Production car is closer to the 2002 Hommage than that interpretation.

Yeah it's the rendering we're talking about. Can't comment on the production car as I haven't read or heard that it will be closer to the 2002 hommage but if it is that is great news!

Width: yeah, E82 'bulldog stance' of a decade ago 'Reloaded'.
