This. People underestimate the allure of having the new toy. The amount of people that bought the new M3 for all reasons BUT the design is outstanding. Later, they slowly start convincing themselves “it’s not that bad” “it’s growing on me”. Pretty sure this new m2 will follow suit with what’s happened with the M3.

Enthusiasts will dislike it. People looking to get into another new car or new to the brand will say they like it and existing f87 owners who truly don’t like the design so far will say they’ll keep their cars.

It’s all subjective. For me, whether it was a comp or CS, I’m glad I have my f87 and I had an opportunity and thought about getting a g80 when my f80 M3 lease was up.

Ultimately, I can’t accept this new bmw design language- then there’s the whole made out of Mexico thing that is hard to accept for an M car.

They really screw it - what an ugly fascia.. when I was working at BMW everyone bashed Bangle. Who thought we would wish his design back.. don't know what they are smoking, but this is just disgusting- it's so weird that nowadays Skoda ( who always gave a sh** about design) have a design more pleasing the eye than what BMW is about to bring. Probably in some parts of the world this will be really cool, in old Europe though its just 😩.

Can't wait for the „growing on me" fanboys - it's just proofing we get used to almost anything when(seemingly) having no alternatives…

Your perspective is a subjective one. Just because you feel that way doesn't mean everybody shares your sentiment. Buyers have ALWAYS been brand buyers. That's the entire reason we have luxury marquee brands to begin with; it's status……just like name brand clothes and shoes. Sure, one could argue that some people buy items regardless of gross appeal, but generally speaking, people aren't buying cars they dislike (….much in the same way that people aren't generally in relationships with people they aren't attracted to). That's just a silly ass assertion fueled by confirmation bias. Objectivity isn't what you're interested in.
Truth ‼️

This is progress? As a longtime enthusiast that's owned 3 different BMW's over the course of the last 10 years, the only progress I see here is a progression into overstyled and disjunct "LOOK AT ME" design.

So on one hand you utter it's all subjective, which is an explicit statement about the variances between people's tastes, feelings, perspectives, etc….

….yet, prior to that, you make finite statements such as, "enthusiasts won't like it"…….and if we use ONLY this forum as a reference, plenty of enthusiasts like the G8X and have purchased them. What gives you the authority to label who is and who isn't an enthusiast?!?

That’s very encouraging. The render based on the leaked bumper pic was brutal.

IMO it's not quite wide enough for an M2

Definitely more soft vs the OG being more raw looking by comparison

Here's a quickie render. I think it will look much better once all the hardware is in place.

I'm guessing the only folks buying these will be leasers that need something to tide them over until we swing out of this current design trend.
So lease something you don't like? Just switch brands and vote with your wallet. Those first year excitement sales will die off quickly.

Nonsense.

Dealer management systems auto post to dealer websites and integrated 3rd party sites (cars.com etc) the second a car’s VIN is entered into inventory for tracking purposes. Yes, even customer cars at the port and those on the lot that are already sold. They dont attempt to fix this because it keeps the phone ringing and the traffic coming in. Just call any one of those dealerships and inquire about any of those cars. 90% of them won’t be available. The other 10% might last a day.

Trust me.

I’ve been trying to find a Land Rover Defender for months now. Searching dealer websites and Cars.com you’d think the country is flooded with them. It only takes one call to disprove that. It’s the same thing for the G80/G82.

You guys want it to be a failure so badly. It it’s the other way around.

Sad!

I'm using the same hyperbole and anecdotal evidence the detractors are using. The detractors say, "ZOMG! These cars are just sitting on dealership lots. Nobody is buying them."

My local dealerships all throughout California can't even keep them in stock and are selling them above sticker all day long. People on the forums have issues obtaining allocations, and when somebody claims dealership ABC has X amount of cars on the lot (…usually basing that on internet sites that also tally in sold cars), I call and the dealership actually has none…..or maybe one.

So which is it? Are they selling or aren't they?!?!

The detractors will argue, "Well it's a chip shortage. Every car is selling with/without a mark-up. That doesn't mean the car is any good." I would challenge them to show me a large sample size of people who can just fuck off $80k+ on a car they don't like……and pay above sticker for it on top of that. It's just ridiculous. A person doesn't have to buy a G8X. They could spend that money elsewhere. They buy it because they like it.

Exactly! People just spout off at the mouth and haven't done the leg work. Anytime somebody has made a claim, I've called the dealership and debunked the claim.

Ya it’s a bunch of nonsense.

The rule of thumb is if a car has manufacturer issued placeholder image and doesn’t have a dealer taken picture on the show room floor or out on the lot … 99 times out of 100 it’s a car that’s already sold.

I have seen countless posts proclaiming they're off to the Porsche dealer for their next new car. Porsche sales should double this year with all the new business they'll be getting from all the ex-BMW fanboys. We'll know end of year if the rants were merely smoke and mirrors.

Ps. To the folks who have no concept of statistics. Your local neighborhood dealer's data is insufficient and therefore one cannot use that observation to make any meaningful conclsusion. On the other hand, the quarterly sales reports BMW releases does. Similar to your employer's quarterly financial reports or your stock portfolio quarterly reports.

I agree, which is why I wish some would stop mentioning Porsche. It's not an easy jump to make. Trust me. This shit took work and a bit of luck.
