Stand Wheel & Tire Question

I have an M240 that is coming in next month. The car was already spec'ed as it's their first 2-series coupe. The car is Brooklyn Gray and has the "base" 792's, which I like a lot, but it's spec'ed with the all-season RFT's. If I had the choice I'd have spec'ed the staggered 792's w/performance non-RFTs. So my questions are:

1. How will these "small" tires affect traction and handling of the car when pushed (spirited backroads driving, or DE)?

2. What type of tires, brand/model, are being used for the base 225/40/19 AS's?

3. Can I safely run a 245-35-19 Performance tire if I wanted to upgrade on my own? Normally I have to buy winter tires when I get a new car, this is a switch!

4. Are there aftermarket wheel choices yet? Tire Rack doesn't list any wheels for the 22' 2-series. Are they the same as the G20 fitment? What about the F30 since I already have a set of wheels from my current 340?

I looked into this when I ordered the G42 M240i for my wife. I was going with the M797 with all seasons but when I saw the rears are 225s with 8.0x19 wheels I changed my order to the performance tires which comes with the 245 rears which I’m sure has 8.5x19 wheels even if the order guide says 8.0x19. I will ask my dealer to order Michelin Pilot AS4 from tire rack on my dime and have the car delivered with them mounted. I will save the performance tires for when I sell the car.

The G20 4 series has the same M797 setups and it has 8.5 inch rear wheels for the performance tire option and 8.0 for all seasons. 8 inch wheels are too narrow for 245s and I would not run that mix.

So what to do in your situation? I would order two M797 8.5x19 wheels. They are available for the 4 series at $1300 for both rears.

(You need to set front wheels to 0 since all for wheels are pre-selected)

Thanks for the info. So a 225 is the widest you'd want to run on an 8" wheel? I followed that link and for the 792's its $1525 for 2- rear wheel, then another $1100 for Pilot Sport 4S's, then TPMS sensors, mounting & balancing and it'll quickly add up to around $2900. Ouch! I might consider some aftermarket wheels. This is what I get for taking a preconfigured build.

You can go up to 235 on an 8 inch wheel and be within the tire requirements. However since BMW do not have that combo I would be cautious due to changes in height of the rears. You’ll need to run either 40 or 35 profile, none will be within the standard height when matched with a 235. Maybe it doesn’t mess with the electronics as speed sensors, DSC etc. but then maybe it does…

I could put 225 Pilot Sport 4Ss for the summer I guess. I wonder if the AWD will make up for the smaller tire in straight-line?
